Arai Helmets Overview and Sizing Guide
www.revzilla.com/arai-helmets?...
Arai has been making premium helmets for well over 50 years and the Arai name has always been synonymous with quality. What makes Arai helmets stand out is their commitment to quality and the high level of safety standards each and every helmet Arai produces must meet. Arai has a complete range of full face helmets from their most modest Vector 2 to the most exotic Corsair V. Arai was also the first helmet manufacturer to produce a Dual Sport helmet with the first XD helmet, which is now on its third iteration. For folks who prefer an open face helmet, Arai has two offerings, including the new CT-Z which is inarguably the most protective and safe open face helmet available. The Arai commitment to safety means EVERY helmet must pass 3 separate inspection points and use their own set of internal rigorous testing standards that exceed any nationalized test out there. Every Snell 2010 helmet in the Arai range uses 5 shell sizes, making each offering the strongest, lightweight, most optimized shell available. As Mr. Arai has been quoted "We don't make helmets, we make Arais." What more can we say?

The Vector 2 does feature the new customization 5mm peel away pads at the cheeks and the temple. Also keep in mind there will be some break in once you spend some time in the helmet. The Vector 2 shape is fairly neutral within the Arai family. If you can't find an Arai that fits well, check out the Shoei RF-1100. ~Ali

The feature set is nearly identical from the RX-Q to the Signet Q. The Signet Q uses the new SAI Max-vision faceshield, and the newer FCS cheekpads (both slight upgrades over the RX-Q). If you liked the features of the RX-Q, but the fit was off, the Signet Q is the clear winner. ~Ali

The Arai XD4 has some nice upgrades over the XD3. I have the XD3 and love it, but the XD4 has eyebrow vents, the facial contour cheekpads, and the 5mm peel away tabs for a more customized fit. ~Ali

The Arai Corsair V is an incredible helmet. If you plan on taking your helmet to the track on a regular basis, this is a great option. If you only ride street, I think you'll prefer the Signet Q or the RX-Q (depending on head shape) for the street. ~Ali

Like a finely crafted samurai sword, Arai is the track weapon of choice from Moto GP riders to F1 drivers. I am the proud owner of a Signet-Q. Attention to detail and superb fit and finish throughout. Thank you Arai family for your commitment to safety and quality.

The RX-Q has a more round to round oval fit. If your head is more narrow, it could be that the internal fitting shape is not a good match, even if the measurements are spot on. I suggest giving our Gear Geeks a call to help walk you through the Arai line-up and which helmet might be the best fit. Also keep in mind that the interior will break in about 5% with some use. A new helmet should fit snug. ~Ali

I've owned a Signet-Q for about a year. While the helmet is well executed and the quality of components are top tier there are a few things that don't live up to my expectations. The first is the hot spots that are created on my ear due to the Sena 20 speakers I have installed and second is that the lens still fogs with the pin-lock shield installed and finally it's not very quite. I do love the fact that you can buy optional mirrored shields (but they don't have pin-lock posts) and that the face shields come with venting. Overall I love the helmet and the top level protection it provides but I will definitely look for my next helmet which corrects some of these issues.

Small and Medium are unique sizes. Arai is a premium offering and most of their helmets also include up to 5 unique shell sizes. In nearly all Arai's, the size Small will use a small shell sizes and the size Medium will use a Medium shell size. To confirm, the size Medium is larger than the size Small. ~Ali

I suggest giving our Gear Geeks a call so you can discuss in more detail how the helmet fits. Unfortunately, this comment format is a bit too limited to troubleshoot effectively. Arai nr5 was my first helmet, I sat perfect and all. I never realised that Arai was a good brand either, for me it was 'just a helmet'. I was a newbie and had no insight in anything. So I thought all other helmets where as good. Because I had at that point never tried a bad helmet. But o'boy how unaware I was that Arai put the bar HIGH. Only when Ive sold it and got a new Nolan helmet, I realised what mistake Ive done. The perfect fit was gone. And many many helmets later, I still miss the fit of my Arai nr 5... :-( Its time to get an Arai again, and this time, Arai will stay.

5:05 Are EMT's informed about the quick release cheek pad system? I mean it's great to have such a safety design, but if peeps are unaware that it's there, it won't get implemented... ☹

Ducati Dude I know this is a little late, but I’m an EMT/firefighter and also a new rider. In my emt academy we are taught the proper time as well as the proper method of removing helmets. But never once were we told about the construction or padding in a helmet. Had I not gotten into motorcycles I would never have known of the emergency releases. Being that I didn’t know what they were, even though they say emergency on them. I wouldn’t use them. Just because it says emergency on it, if we’re not trained or informed, we’re going to treat the helmet just like any other. I imagine that this design is intended more for track day emergencies where there’s personnel who are more highly trained and more familiar in removing bike gear. As far as it stands on the street, your gear is getting cut off of you with shears and your helmet is getting removed just like any other.

I teach at an EMT program and when I teach helmet removal I do mention removable cheek pads. However, i ride so I know about them. My guess is the average EMT will not be familiar with them. In addition, all of our practice helmets were given to us and do not have that system. If it makes you feel any better, removing the cheek pads makes it a little easier but the difficult part of removing a helmet is clearing your nose with the chin bar.

If I shake my head vigorously with the strap on, the helmets also moves from side to side. Would thicker pads help solve this problem? I recently tried a rx q small and the helmet fit perfectly around the crown without any pressure points and no fingers in the brow but the temples had finger space. I don't know if they had the temple pads in it. I have looked from a picture from the top of my head and I do believe my forehead is much narrow then the rest of head. The helmet moved with my skin but was able to go up and down if I tried. It wasn't so tight on my cheek so that might be a problem there but I'm worried about the open space around the temples. I would like to buy a full face solid color Arai helmet (assuming I can find one that fits me) but because of the price, there is no way I'm going to order one online, without trying it on. I figure there is a very small chance it will fit properly. As expensive as these helmets are, I would think Arai would have certain stores that at least have a way of determining the proper size and shape of a specific helmet, but that does not seem to be the case. I can't believe anyone is going to order a $1000 helmet online without first making sure it fits properly. Yet it seems there is no other alternative. A company that builds expensive premium helmets, should also have premium service for their customers.
