    Simply put, the shorter barrel makes the weapon more maneuverable in close quarters. Same with a sawed-off shotty. As far as the 200 dollar tax stamp? Registration. And also knowledge of what they may face if they decide to come for you...

    It's a pistol! Barrel can be as short as I want it. No tax stamp needed. There is no stock on that pistol.

    All AR15 stripped lowers are marked as "other" when you fill out the paperwork. Not pistol or rifle, the info you are giving isn't correct.

  • @Irishrebel092
    @Irishrebel0928 жыл бұрын

    i have a slight correction to your explanations. when buying a stripped lower, you do not have to have it listed as a pistol or rifle, they list it under "other". the ATF has determined that the stripped lower can not be considered a pistol or rifle until it is assembled into it's final configuration.

    5:33 - "...it can take away your right to own a firearm permanently." Sootch, I get where you're coming from, but NOTHING can take away my right to own a firearm. I'm a human being and I have an unalienable right to self defense, no matter what arbitrary rules a government may choose to impose. Saying things like "you're not allowed to..." and "you can't have..." is only validating their control over you. You tell us to "be of good courage" at the end of every video. Maybe you should heed your own words. "If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." -Thomas Jefferson

    Here in PA, purchasing the lower as a pistol isn't necessary. I thought the same, but my FFL cleared it up. In PA, they got essentially sick of the hassle. As long as the gun is legally a pistol, all is well.

    Nice video! I know it's a few years old, but I thought I'd toss in that angled foregrips are legal on AR pistols, and you can run a full foregrip as long as the total overall length (without flash hider), is over 26" from the back of the buffer tube to the tip of the barrel. It changes the designation from 'pistol' to 'firearm'.

    I have come to believe there are some advantages for a .300 AAC Blackout in an AR Pistol if you have conceal carry, as a car gun in particular. The caliber gives you ammunition options, and tremendous firepower in a small package. I did not realize it was the same lower, that it was simply how your register it with a new FFL purchase. Sootch offers good advice, keep the receipt of purchase as a pistol and never put anything but a pistol barrel or pistol compliant components on it.

    I agree with your statement about the rifle being the most efficient, now though... that things can get dicey the issue is swinging that full rifle with 18" barrel out in an automotive attack situation. I think the pistol alternative with the "hand brace stock" is a wise solution for those of us living in densely populated metro areas when TSHTF.

    Also, you can register your weapon as an aow, its a $5 form, and put a vertical foregrip on it. Or, you can use the magpul afg, which has been found to be legal without paperwork, due to not being a vertical grip.

    7.5" DI can be reliable. But it is a good idea to buy a known good build or have seller demonstrate reliability. I got a 7.5" build dirt cheap. It was sold by second owner because it would stove pipe just about every time you pulled the trigger. And when it rarely did eject the brass went straight forward. The original owner put a flash can on it and the back pressure from what was essentially a muffler caused severe over gas condition. Ran great with out flash can but was still what I would consider slightly over gassed. I now custom load 55gr sp with reduced charge and faster powder and now the thing cycles like a M16 rifle with the flash can. And absolutely no flash at night! As others have mentioned you can put a forward vertical grip on a pistol if it measures > 26 inches overall (with any threaded muzzle device removed).

    I've been told that the Rear buffer tube cant be from a AR15 with the slot/slid for a adjustable but stock. Wrapping it with twine is not a legal work around, there is a specific buffer tube you must purchase. Also the 45 degree front grip is still legal with out any special paperwork on the AR pistol.

    For a 5.56 pistol, I prefer the PLR-16. I feel that if I want my cheak on something, I should use one of my rifles. The PLR-16 is also much lighter and though it uses the same action as the SU-16, it was designed as a pistol. That helps function.

    I had the issue of purchasing the stripped lower receiver as a "PISTOL" but the FFL I use stated to me its listed as "OTHER," because it is a receiver not a rifle nor a handgun. So I asked an ATF agent and after his research responded back with the receiver is purchased as OTHER. The definition comes when the lower and the upper are mated, its then a pistol or a rifle. Thats what I was told by a live ATF Agent. Form 4473 States Handgun, Rifle or Other.

    I hope Kel-Tec will offer the PLR-16 in 300BLK in the future (as is currently available for the SU-16C and SU-16CA). 25% more energy out of a 9" barrel than 5.56mm. Plus with a detachable silencer and subsonic ammunition it's a very practical option for certain roles. Quieter and more effective than a suppressed pistol caliber carbine. Of course the best thing is the SBR SU-16D, a PLR-16 with the SU-16C's folding stock, but it has to be registered as an SBR and subject to all those restrictions.

    Stripped Lower Receivers are marked as "Other" on the 4473. You can also take a pistol and make it into a rifle and back to a pistol as often as you want, as long as the lower started life as a pistol. If it started life as a rifle, it must stay a rifle, so yes, if you put your pistol upper on your rifle lower, it's a violation.
