Second video from The Art of the Planted Aquarium, presenting aquariums which took places 6-10. My favourite aquascapes are aquariums of the 6th and 9th places. The first one is a very nice, simple yet beautiful iwagumi layout made by Georg W. Just, and the second one is a driftwood-based composition by Tobias Fricke, with ingenious positioning of Anubias nana on top of the driftwood. There is one usunusal aquatic plant in this aquarium - it's Ranunculus fluitans, a coldwater species of plant which you can find easily in Central European rivers.
All aquariums were provided by Eheim, there are standard Eheim aquarium lighting in the hoods (2 T5 fluorescent lamps) and Eheim external aquarium canister filters. No CO2 supply systems were used during the contest. The substrate was provided by Dennerle, however some scapers used their own substrate. There were no tropical aquarium fish in the aquariums because they are forbidden by the rules of the contest :)

I love going back and watching all your older stuff. :) You must have one of the best aquarium video archive on the net! Fantastic. :D
The first one was breath taking. Wow gorgeous.

True, I also like it a lot :)
Wow, the second one is so stunning and awesome. It's definitely will be one of my favorite aquascape decorations.
Love Tobias Fricke's aquascape. Just beautiful.
I agree, that is one of the nicest tanks I have ever seen. love the cave.
how can someone give this a thumbs down crazy. this is art captured in an aquarium,
I feel calmer after looking at that. Beautiful.

Great! Making people to be calmer is a very good thing to do :)
Yup, exactly, just a white plate, skewed towards the top, and a small light at the bottom, behind the aquarium. Take a closer look at 0:55 - 1:02, the white background is clearly visible behind the aquarium.
lovely tanks thank you so much for taking the time to share.
Its May 2018, and i still enjoy watching these tanks...
Awesome close up of Oliver Knott's aquarium. Love your videos!
I would vote aquarium #15 , 8th place to the top. #1. Some are incredible from an aesthetic point of view, but this tank is both gorgeous and practical for the fish. random like nature, many caves and hiding places, elevation to the right with the large water column on the left. I'm in love. Kudos to that guy.
great aquascaping.Congrats
They set up these tanks at home, well in advance before the show (like 3-4 months, minimum), and then they disassemble everything, and transport the decorations and plants to the exhibition hall, where a tank of similar dimensions is waiting for them, together with water and substrate (all is provided by the organizers).
The rocks are probably the Seiryu stones from ADA. Try to look for them in online aquarium shops in your country. And the plant is called Eleocharis parvula.
That looks so nice
2:42 Best tank IMO!! Earned a sub too, great video man!
nice tanks!! how to clean these tanks??
Thanks. I'm looking to get a new tank once I move soon, and these look like the perfect size :)
Thanks! :) Only after publishing I realised that I should film also the sides of this tank. Oliver did it, if you look at his channel here on YT, called "amanoshrimp", you'll find that video. Sides of this dragon-layout are quite nice :)
You all way dogwood work. I enjoy looking at all your work. All the best .dfzurich

Thanks, and have a great New Year! :)
I'm fairly sure they are a variety of Seiryu stone, Seiryu famously has that sort of texture and white striations.
The 6th place is so cool...It feels like a part of my soul ..it deserves the 1st place
This one is done in Hannover, Europe, end of January, every two years. The website is "planted-aquarium.de".
1:28 wonderful rock great catch
Awesome Aquascape, Rock work seems to defy gravity. Nice now I have to go prune my plants...
Thanks! :) Aquariums were made by Eheim.
Thank you for the videos. they are great!
Yeah, it's one of the most interesting tanks at this contest :) Cheers! :)
stunning i love these tanks !! thanks for sharing :-)
That tank was the reason I hit the Like button for this video. :)
Thanks, mate :) I'm glad you like them! :)
It's Eleocharis sp., not sure what exactly - maybe E. parvula, or just normal E. accicularis. You can check Just Aquascaping website, maybe there are some more infos there about the tank :)
I like the 6th place. This could be an inspiration for my planted tank.
Well, it can be done. And maybe it's even easier than cleaning gravel, because when the carpet is present you won't be able to suck gravel granules (happens to me all the time when I do vacuuming of the substrate in my tanks). But the most important thing is that when there are not too many fish - there is actually no need for vacuming. The dirt is falling down between plants and substrate, and stays there for plants' roots to consume it :)
MUY HERMOSO......GRAN VIDEO

Thanks! :)
Plant species is Eleocharis accicularis. For infos about substrate, conditions, etc, visit website of the aquascaper - I can't put links here, so just enter "Just Aquascaping" in Google :)
nice inspirations
that dragon tank was awesome
Sure they do. First, water movement is good, second, mechanical filtration is also good, third, additional bacteria in the filter will not do any harm - the more bacteria, the more stable the environment conditions.
What is the material that produced the Dragon of the eighth aquarium ?? This is innovative!
Yup, seems that it's really attractive one. This video has the most views of all TAotPA 2013 videos :)
Well, more info on yor tank is needed. There are many carpeting plants to choose from, but tie choice depends on the conditions you have. What size of the aquarium, what illumination, what are the water parameters, do you want to add ferts/CO2 or not, etc.
What rocks, exactly...? In what aquarium...? The first one, by Georg Werner Just...?
That's true, these tanks are great :)
Strasznie mnie ciekawi jaki to kamień został zastosowany na pierwszej aranżacji.
Which one do you like the most...? :)
where the hell can i find a dinosaure like that for my aquarium?? omg thats so kool
I love you videos and what grass did you use
Wow! that is more beautiful than the other tanks that i see at other videos,if your an expert at decorating tank pls give me advice because my betta fish is not 100 percent happy because theres no decoration tnx for the answer
Hi your tanks are impressive. Im looking to do a freshwater tank design and was wondering what Driftwood you use.? I don't want to use plastic and want to go for the natural look. I've heard that tannins can leak into the water from the driftwood. How do the designers overcome this.?
It's warm water species. Eleocharis parvula or Eleocharis accicularis.
How much does it coast for things like these I have a 20g tank that i might have to move the fish in it to a larger one and I want to try and do this is it really expensive to do a small one?
good for you bro, your videos are very entertaining, i`m sure in time you will make enough. As a subscriber i would be interested to see your own scapes, fish-room etc
Don't think so - they have different requirements in terms of water parameters.
That's true, the layout is very detailed :) Funny thing is that I realised this some time after filming, when I was watching my raw videos during editing :) When I was there, at the exhibition, this tank looked "just" very good - I didn't realise how many details there are :)
What kind of rocks are these? I've been looking for some just like this!

ADA Seiryu stones, if I remember correctly :)
hola muy bonito ke planta es por favor del primer acuario saludos desde lima perú en spañol kiero ver nuevo videos.gracias
My pleasure :)
Woe...that's beautiful!:D
How do they setup the tank for competitions? Do they leave all the plants and hardscape intact and just drain out the water during transportation?
Too bad the fish are not allowed. I'm such a fish lover. I just recently discovered this art of Aquascaping and i'm in love. I subbed! Thank you for sharing :)
What aquarium do you mean?
Where do you get the Dragon?...he should have found matching rock to make two more islands..with the one in center being the surprise...
You haven't uploaded in a while. I hope all is well with your health and wish you the best

Abhishek Goel Thanks! :) My current job doesn't leave me much time to work on videos, or travel to aquascaping events :( But I hope to be able to change this :)
I want some of that gravel from that Dragon tank ...where do ppl buy this stuff sheeeeesh
A link to buy what? Planted aquarium like these in the video?
Which one? What time of the video?
Thanks a lot man that all for now, lol you take care and thanks for the advice!
perfektní
I like it
Only 8th place?
It was made by Giulio Golinelli, enter this name in Google and you'll find his website. I'm not sure if there is any online shop there, but it's a good place to start :)
What is the title of the music ?
I need a carpeting plant, like the first tank. Nice hardscape too. Any suggestions for a good carpeting plant?
Hey, so it seems that there is some "background" behind the idea of making such layout? It's based on Chinese mythology?
Beautiful! But where are the fish
Beautiful aquariums! What background do you use to get that gradient effect in that first aquarium? Just any white background with a light placed behind it?
Where are These shows done? I would like to see one
what to do to prevent algae?
Very good video I love this channel ... which is the mark of the aquarium? are beautiful
Which one is the "mystical" one...? :)
Which plant u have used on the ground
what kind of grass is that and is it warm or cold water? totally love this style
Thank you for posting these videos! Question, at 4:50 if you pause, is that Anubias Nana Petite with rhizomes growing vertical instead of horizontal? Or is it trimmed to look like that? I'm on my first tank for about 2 years now and have learned a lot and can't learn enough. I love this art form!
Todos están geniales :D
What is "good"? ;)
Yeah, these tanks were very good :)
Hey sorry to ask too much but is the CO2 good for the fishes? Cuz I added some liquid for my current plants but it kill most of my fish and some got infected with fungus Nd died afterwards, thanks
Hmmm, dragon head...? Maybe these somewhat curly Bolbitis leaves in the central left part of the screen...? (and leaves above would be the wings of the dragon... :) )
You could try to make an aquascape based only on driftwood overgrown with moss. Maybe plecos wont eat the moss too soon... :)
the grass in the first tank?
yeah. Those in first tank from Georg
For example, the first tank in this vid, how do you clean the substrate if the tank has fish? Freshwater can not be self sustaining right? I'm just so use to vacuum cleaning my gravel it seems like a full carpet substrate would be a headache....
What are the dimensions of that first tank? It is beautiful.
That depends on the species of fish - there are some specied not suitable for planted aquariums. But most of the typical aquarium fish you could easily put itno such aquariums, and nothing bad would happen. The fish are not present in the tanks only because it's forbidden by the rules of the contest :)
Yeah, when one forgets about the kitsch-like part of this aquascape - it's quite interesting :) After all, the plants on the bottom are well composed and look nice. It's not a nature aquarium, more like an "orderly garden" (not sure if "orderly" is the right word, I mean that there is order in the way the plants are arranged :) ), but still - looking good :)
stunning!!! too bad, we do not have those plants (in my country)
im a little confused. do they still need to circulate the water if theres no fish or anything?
