While with him, I learned about my triggers through him. I wanted to work on it with him but the environment was growing more toxic for me. I walked on 6/25 and the last time I was forced to see him was 6/29 where I reconfirmed our breakup. I have not talked and seen him since. I get texts from him but I have intentionally avoided him since he is very good at gaslighting and knows my soft spots to manipulate me. I want to have closure with him and also for him to let him know that I forgive him but I don’t want to be with him. I disagree with your take on my views on relationships. I always knew what was healthy by instinct. My parents and sibling were all dysfunctional, and their dysfunctions fed into each others. I was “the white sheep” and distanced myself from them. I moved out at 19 and limited my contact. The only disfunctional thing I took with me was my argument style. Husband grew up in a very similar family structure and he had the same argument style. I thought he was a white sheep in his family too. I was mistaken. He was a wolf in sheeps clothing. We were so compatible that I didn’t want to see it. He also told me everything I wanted to hear and I gobbled it up. He showed small signs of an issue but it was so infrequent that it was like a normal personality imperfection like all of us have. It would only appear under very stressful times with college or work. It didn’t really show more until 10 years into the relationship. It wasn’t until 14 years in that it became very clear there was something going on but I was expecting our second child and it was a little late for my realization! As he aged the disorder became more and more prevalent. In his mid forties it took over. Then the downward spiral of our relationship began. Back to it……

With the friends on here. Some of them want more than a friendship, and I pull back when it seems like my being a friend is causing harm instead of good.
