Little late to reply, but no it is not an auxiliary water pump. That pump on the front with the copper pipes running to it is the water pump for the heat exchanger system. It is factory, and if yours locked up you can buy a rebuild kit for it.

@Harold8711 .... You most likely have a stuck valve. When the valve gets stuck, compression from the piston pushes the air mixture back into the carburator. That's why you see the gas get blown back with most likely small explosions and back fires. You'll have to pull the engine and have your valve and head reconditioned....

..Is that some sort of aux water pump that has the 2 solid lines coming out of it? We're working on one and the timing belt was bad and that water pump looking thing is what locked up and took out the cogs on the belt

lol that engine been sitting a long time i can tell did it sank once? or just looks ugly from sitting?
