the reason why mojang puts more effort into april fools than major updates is because mojang can change the game so much that it can ruin it, without ppl really getting mad. it's an april fools joke, so no big deal. but with major updates, they have to go through EVERYTHING. but fixes, making sure it works on bedrock and java, making sure that nothing will ruin the game or change it too much, etc.

@@bonnecticat plus with non-april fools updates they have to fix a bunch of bugs, and then they have to recode the entire thing but with different coding programs because of bedrock edition

Love how when it comes to games doing April fools it’s always like: hey here are all the things you’ve always wanted…JUST KIDDING WE’RE NEVER GONNA ADD THOSE. EVER!!!!!

to be fair, there's a lot of bugs in the update, as it's not polished in the slightest. Like, if you've messed around with the floatator at all, you know what I mean.

My best guess is that real content has a lot of red tape in the way. Stuff has to be tested, approved, reworked, re-tested, over and over again before its allowed into the game, whereas with April fools, they can just throw whatever half-baked fun they want into it with zero worries

People really will look at this snapshot and then somehow say it's better then the actual updates. Every structure is a reskin of an existing structure that is just a palette swap with nothing about them. Every biome is just reused assets using a terrain that has existed in the game for years. Almost every block is just the potato texture they pressed control c and control v on and then put a filter over. The consumables add nothing to the game in any way. Virtually all of the items are also just gag reskins that don't have much going for them. And the one's that aren't would be filled with bugs and break the creativity of existing mechanics. Every single mob is a reskin with nothing unique for them, other then the Guardian's who are cut in half and the poorly designed boss that's just a large slime. This update would be hated and not fit the game at all if it was real, and that's the difference between actual updates, and this. It's a lot easier to make an update when you can just throw random untested and barely thought out shit into the game without concern for anything else. Having to make actually good code. Porting it to both versions of the game. There is so much that goes into these updates, and it takes a lot to actually make a good update. Buzzy Bee's for one was an Update that did hundreds of bugfixes and handled a lot of things such as the 3d biomes. Every updates changelog is filled with the things they had to do, that this video just ignores. For an April Fools snapshot they don't need to do any of that. Because it has no quality control whatsoever. The checklist throughout this video gave no concern to what any of these features actually were. Changing the entire terrain generation of the game, therefore remaking every biome and making both the Java and Bedrock have nearly the same seed generation, also making several million more potential seeds possible, all without breaking anything is so many times more work then anything this snapshot did. And that's just what 1.18 did. This is a joke snapshot with poor unusable code, not having to go through any reviews and almost everything being a reused asset. Quantity over quality is not a good thing, you cannot judge what they added to the game just by the quantity of what was added. Otherwise RLcraft or Orespawn is exactly what this game should be.

There hasn't been a lot of high effort content to minecraft since caves and cliffs. New items, structures, enchants, and mobs are pretty easy to implement. Adding a couple every few years is not a substantial update. The update to how water worked in 1.14, the new terrain generation, and the general performance improvements since 1.12 are the only true updates minecraft has gotten in a decade. The little "content" tidbits could be coded and tested in very little time considering how little of it there is, and how much of the base code for those additions was already there.

The whole point was that there was minimal effort. A majority of the spoiled community wanted an update with a number of features higher than they can count, and they delivered. Boom, here's your buggy pile of random additions!
