It is so fascinating that the npcs are still programmed to react to enemies even though they are never supposed to interact in-game. The depth of this game is incredible.

I agree! However, when designing a game, it can be easy to code the same behavior into all of one “type”, in this case being that most npcs run because they’re made from the same asset. So if you have an npc model and behavior, etc., and some of them won’t normally encounter enemies, why bother going through the work to code that behavior *off* for them. Much easier to just keep that run check on for everyone regardless of if they’ll ever normally see an enemy. So this amount of depth is actually due to common coding shortcuts, not extra attention. And the pillows being part of Impa’s character model is hilarious.

im pretty sure it's by default... Any npc without exclusive behavior is set to run away. Otherwise Impa wouldn't be running around with pillows at their feet
