Hi John and nice to see Grace again. As for the maintenance of Volvo trucks, the cost is high in France too, and the price is not the same. The most expensive remain the Scania and Mercedes. Not to mention that the price of diesel is expensive (€1.75 per liter , 1.93 dollar US) which does not help. For vacuum motor power reduction, a company in France had this system, which could even reduce power remotely. The drivers didn't like it.

With as hard as you run John, I'm surprised the boss can't keep equipment new and in warranty like the mega carriers do. You either pay finance or maintenance.

I hate moving, so I can sympathize with you having so much to get set up again in the Volvo. Including the Alaska trip, you've moved 3 times in a year! Our experience with Volvos when I was driving was that sure they have more maintenance expense than the Kenworth/Peterbilts from Paccar, but ownership cost was still less with the Volvos because they are priced so much less than Paccars. Your boss might get a better deal than we did since our fleet was less than 10, but if he goes through the numbers he might wind up with Volvos again. We tried a couple of Macks (since they are from same company as Volvos, and we were buying them from same Volvo/Mack dealer selling both brands), but they were no better than Volvos on ownership cost.

Well the truck was driven out of the shop and onto the street so I’m not sure what exactly you want him to check before starting it up.
