Appreciating The Three Sisters

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Corn, Beans & Squash, known as the Three Sisters, are cultivated together in traditional native American agricultural practices. The Indigenous Preservation Center near Cornell University explores this relationship to better understand how to improve sustainable agricultural practices. This short film produced by Jose Barreiro & Rich Brotman in 1995 has been screened at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York.

🙏🙏🙏 Thanks be given to God who created us, the earth, all things herein. The wonderful plants that feed us. I do love the amazing foods prepared in so many ways, from traditional corn, squashes, beans, potatos, tomatos, hot peppers.

Getting rid of cash crops, and industrialized farming. More people working the the land in the ways of the Iroquois. Family farming. Drying corn on the husks. Getting more people back out of the cities and interested in farming in natural ways. By hand. Not wasting. Community farming, like it used to be.

it was rare that anyone went hungry when we had our community and personal gardens . our families got together and for over 2 months folks were drying , canning and freezing food for the winter . the end of the year was always the offer of gleaning the fields . no cost for Any Homeless and lower cost for those that could afford to!

I have terrible arthritis now. I can't eat corn or nightshades or glutinous grains anymore. I am hoping I can grow ancient varieties to get to eat them again.

& what about the fourth sister ! Has the white European culture & corporatism stopped you from remembering that the fourth sister is tobacco? Have they changed your own folk tale? The four complement each other. The four bless each other.
