My dad was there for a couple of years of my childhood, it may seem like a good thing but the reality is that it only made my life a little sadder since I could see how he hit my mom and they fought each other to the point of insulting each other and getting us into their fights. One day we just went with my mom and we visited him frequently since he used to have anger issues and I worried about him but little by little he became more distant and to this day I think I don't hate him or blame him but it makes me sad to see more people being happy with their parents as an ideal family person reading this
