Applying thermo-acoustic insulation in your car (DEI Floor & Tunnel Shield II)

Learn how to put in sound deadening and heat reflective material into your car. In this case I was preventing a common wet carped problem due to condensation. The exhaust runs right under the floorboards and causes a lot of condensation and over time that causes the carpets to get damp.

You can tell how recent or old a ChrisFix video is based on Chris's level of exuberance at the start.

This is probably when he thought he was just going to have a boring old channel. Little did he know we all love Chris Fix!!!

You should always insulate on the warm side, never the cold side. With this "solution", you have trapped moisture between the insulation and the metal floor, which will likely cause it to rust quicker.

hey brother I know this is not the mainstream topic but it would be pretty cool to see you totally gut the inside of a car and sound dampen / insulate it like a high-end luxury car.

I don't need this fix but watched anyway. Good, solid, step by step instructions and "show and tell." I really like the way you actually showed exactly how that panel was to be replaced. By showing close ups of which actual parts should connect, and HOW they would connect. That right there will save people from breaking those delicate parts!

That may save the carpet but I think it will still sweat and eventually rust will rot out that section. It has to be insulated from the heat source underneath. You could cut a small "U" in that area and see if the moisture is still there.

OMG!!! You are a joy to watch doing 'old timmey' car fixer-upper jobs. My late father would adore you!! He used to teach automotive mechanics for a number of years. He always used to say you should always know how to fix some things for yourself in your car.

Yo man I thought this was a new video (popped up in my feed) and it sounded like you were straight up depressed or not feeling it. Turns out it is just an old video lol. Definitely much more enthusiasm in the newer videos!

When taking off the adhesive backing, it would be far easier to start the fitting by taking off the backing from the front corner (over the transmission tunnel), therefore pulling the backing towards you as you press the adhesive and insulation into place.

I have this problem (wet under the carpet), but believe it's a heater core leak. I'm also leery of messing around with insulation because of unintended consequences. It would be great if logical solutions always worked, but sometimes they create new problems. On the plus side, I wouldn't have found the possible heater core leak if I hadn't been inspired to work on my car by people like Chris Fix and Pan the Organizer. Many thanks for your great videos and generosity in sharing your knowledge!
