    Very very interesting moves. That remember me some Jiu jitsu technics. It's very interesting to see the karate and Jiu jitsu have great connexion. Obviously i dont have the level to do it for now. I will try to keep that move in mind. Like Always : great job, your student are lucky to train with you.

    Thank you for this video, I been practicing Goju Ryu for a long time and I always feel Aikido technique are hidden within our bunkai this is a technique I love. You video is amazing. Plus you have amazing in depth knowledge I can relate to again excellent demonstration. It fits with Goju Ryu karate most people misinterpret karate as being constantly hard. My art Goju for instance translates as hard and soft. This is a ju technique. Please add me on Facebook if you have one, would love to chat 💭 karate in depth. Love your work brother.

    Daniel Pyatt I been taking my kata apart move by move down to basic techniques, like chudan uke, I just realized a wrist grab hidden in the chudan after checking the attack with a deflecting hand then using chudan to bend the attackers arm at the elbow grabbing the wrist for a lock. It’s amazing what I find everytime I question my kata. Check out a book called The way of Kata by Kris Wilder it’s an amazing book to have in the library.

    Daniel Pyatt that’s why when I seen your video it brought together lots of concepts I had ponder upon. You brought them to light. We were always trained to constantly analyze our katas over and over. Our teacher would always say everything is right in the kata. He would call it the text book of karate. I was always told by my teacher “Know your kata like you know your ABC’s” I would remember when some students forgot moves in a kata, they might be doing that kata the whole training session. Some katas you didn’t want to forget like Sanchin. Where the body is in constant tension, after a few times done correctly the muscles tire quickly.

    Now with Aikido and what I been able to gather from some training, the body should be close as possible to the opponent, also if I am redirecting the person, my feet should never be to far in front of the opponent?

    is this a self defense technique against a one armed (left arm is sleeping) Karateka attack with shock rigidity?

  • @DanielPyatt

    @DanielPyatt

    6 жыл бұрын

    No this a basic technique against a basic attack. It should be obvious how the left arm is dealt with in the technique, if your slower than your opponent you need to intercept their 2nd punch first, if your faster than your opponent the control of the right arm and then rotation to break your opponents structure should position the left arm out of range for the punch and if it doesn't you've done the technique wrong. Appreciate the difference between showing a technique and applying a technique.

    No this a basic technique against a basic attack : This is a Karate attack (oi zuki) whit a freezepoint ... so a selfdefense technique vs a Karateka....???

  • @DanielPyatt

    @DanielPyatt

    6 жыл бұрын

    The attack is basic because its irrelevant. The technique is what is being explained not the multitude of attacks you should be able to apply it from, which is a massive list. The video is only a stimulus for thought in your own training, if you look at it you should be able to apply it from a hook punch, a bottle, a knife, a kick, a headlock etc. And if you can't then that is a problem for you to deal with. You should identify the weaknesses and then plug the gap, thats evaluation.

    @@DanielPyatt Good point, wish that were customary in my dojo. Only the higher belts get asked for applications and often enough they are not convincing to me at least. I find so many other good things about it (like the fact that I consider them an extended family) I could never switch out, but it leaves a lot of homework such as that. Making sure it makes sense and look for then plug holes in your technique. Excellent material !
