It does need protection, I have mine in a case and screen protector. I would rather have peace of mind and protect a £850 device then worry about scratching the body. A few times I have accidentally dragged my watch along a wall and yes the case got a bit scratched but my watch is still like new.

Ive been using main daily since the release of the ultra 1st gen. No case, no screen protection and not a single scratch. I use it for swim, even in the beach, dropped it many times, daily use at work and activities. Its better to use it bare as it is. Ull appreciate the screen and aestethics more

Actually Apple replaces it unlimited if you buy the Apple care plan. Im protecting the watch from scratches and dings which bugs me. If it breaks it breaks lol only costs 100$ to get a new one.
