Best way to explain the differnce between the Fold and Flip I've found is: the Flip is a poket watch that opens into a smartphone, while the Fold is a TABLET that CLOSES into a smartphone; If that makes sense

I love my flip 5. I don't care about smartphone cams, IMHO they are all more or less about the same. I don't use things like Instagram so I'm not endlessly scrolling through lists. I use my phone as an mp3 player most of the time, or to do things like to-do-lists, write down blood glucose values, or buy a ticket. My S21 FE was just too bulky. I had to use both hands all the time. My Flip 5 is usable completely one-handed which is VERY useful on the train or bus. Everything from deezer to youtube, google maps, google keep, chrome, and much more, is perfectly usable on the cover screen (which is far more than just a "widget screen" as you call it, but the available widgets are great, especially the calendar is beautiful). And I love to customize the cover screen home page and how stylish and cool it looks. I rarely unfold it. But when I need to do, it offers premium quality. I don't agree with you that it isn't a premium phone.

I'm traveling in Croatia now with my Tab S9 and Z Flip 5, and both have been perfect travel companions. The only thing I miss is a telephoto lens, but using the cover display and regular rear cameras is a better experience than any other phone. I'm no longer a power user, so the Z Flip meets my needs perfectly. Can't see going back to a slab phone.

I think one of the things that gets missed with the Flip is that theres a small to moderate sized market segment of people like myself who are trying to get away from using phones so much and spending more time without the phone in our hands. It seems to me that the Flip is a stop gap between standard brick style smart phone, and the mucu more minimalist dumb phones that are available.

Exactly I don't want to use my phone as much and I'm over my brick phones always the biggest I usually get but no more

As someone who owns a Flip 5, it is a well-built device....that being said a month later it feels like an upper-middle phone that folds. Cool phone easy to carry conversation starter but needs to be in the 600 to 800 pricing. I still use my Fold 4 more.

That said, most of us got it at mid-tier pricing. :) I only got it because they gave me $400 for my 3 year old phone, plus some other discounts on the watch, buds, storage upgrade. I was coming from an S20 FE 5G which was essentially an upper mid-tier device as well. :)

True and I got a 1000 for my Note 20 Ultra on my Z Fold 4 and if I had traded to get a Z Flip 5 I would have been upset now. In my opinion, the 1000 I paid out of pocket for Z Flip 5 is not worth it will probably trade it when the S 24 comes out and still carry my Z Fold 4.

@@warrenspaulding7829 Yeah, that's what I figured as well... that if I didn't like the flip 5 (mostly if I didn't like the form factor but I guess could be anything), I would trade it in for an S24 and still be better off just because of the trade-in and will have got to try this phone essentially free (it's unlikely the s24 would have given me $400 for my s20). That said, I get you like your Fold 4, but similar to the Flip 4/5, it's really only worth maybe 2/3 the price... the specs are still worse than the equivalent S22/S23 which makes no sense for the $1800 price tag.

@@warrenspaulding7829 Paying just £200 more for the S23U (list) puts the Flip 5 in perspective. Though as we look at prices now, the S23U can be had for the same price! You really must want the bendy take to pay that much.

Thanks for another awesome and objective video. I've had the Z Flip 5 for about almost a month. I really like the phone so far. I started laughing when you described the typical "user" who would enjoy using this phone. You are correct. I don't use my phone as much as I did 5 years ago. I don't use my phone to consume most of my content, so I like the form factor. I don't take a lot of pictures, so camera quality isn't very high on my list of selling points. I love not having to open the phone much at all. I first purchased the Moto Razr Plus and it kept randomly rebooting on me, so I returned it and got the Z Flip 5 instead. I do agree the phone is way overpriced but I took the plunge anyhow.

You are exactly where this is aimed. Though I still would never pay full list on the Flip 5 as it is undeniably overpriced. It was however easily bought on eBay a few days after launch for £400 less than Samsung pricing so if you take that route I feel you are in the ball park as to what you should pay (£650, no more).

Very different than the Fold of course. Both are pretty great. The size of this when closed is so good.

The fold 5 crushes the flip w everything except price.

Don't necessarily disagree but there's something to be said for the small form factor. That said, is the Fold 2x better than the flip, not really, yet it's 2x the price. I think their pricing is a bit out of line on both of these devices at the moment.

There is nothing bad to say about Samsung's Z Flip 5 - it's just that for me, the Z Fold 5 fits my device fix to get what I need for 1/2 tablet screen viewership, otherwise, I just as well settle for a regular Candy bar phone like the much anticipated S24 Ultra.

I normally use cases, but due to the size of this phone, I didn't want to put one on because it would be even thicker than a regular phone since it's basically two cases.. however, the damn thing is so slippery so if you set it down on a bed or anything, it just starts to slide away, so I had to resort to using a case... I did get the thinnest one I could find though. Haha.

I am so glad I found you on a vrs video as I begin to analyze which route to go, Flip or Fold. The points you go through are excellent! What I love about your video is that you hit on aspects, perspective's and intangibles needed to make a purchase decision. Like when you disclosed that the front outside screen is not like a desktop, the way the sound comes left or right based on speakers, the feel and view of horizontal or vertical content...I love how you are bringing to the consumer that if you are a "stick shift" cell phone driver...you may be a little disappointed in "driving an automatic" in so far as the differences between the type of cell phone user you are. Spot on! Your video has helped me decide that I think I am more of a FOLD user then the Flip. I like to get things done then to just play with the cell. LOL! I so wanted to be a convenient FLIP user, but yeah, I agree with you, I want to have a neat compact cell but they do need to vamp up the productivity and user points/ tools you speak of in order for me to convert. Appreciate your video and yes, subscribed to your channel. ♥

i'd like to "upgrade" to this from the iphone 12 mini, the one thing holding me back is the camera. If the camera is better than on the mini i'd take the leap but from what i've read it's the same.

I wish people understood that not everyone is looking for the "best performance" in any phone they buy. Folding phones are fun and that is why people buy them. I personally don't care about phone cameras at all because I take my pictures with dedicated DSLRs, so no matter how good an iPhone camera is, it will never encourage me to buy it.

I would like the specs of my Z flip 5 to challenge S23, but i dont care so much as long its good enough, because right now its already in the lead with Uniqueness. People saying "s23/iphone14 has bigger front screen. ok well i have a more screen real estate because my outerdisplay is technically a screen." "S23/Iphone can take better pictures, ok i can take better selfies and decent regular ones" "s23 has no crease, i can fold" "s23/iphone14 betters specs, i can fit in my pocket". Counter arugment to every topic, flips/folds comes down to preference not what's better, and right now Zflip5 is finally something NEW not slightly improved. Regular Traditional Smartphones are in my opinion are stale. I have friends with S23 Ultra and Iphone14 and it feels like no cares or no one can tell the difference unless the user points it out. Meanwhile Zflip Zfold or any flipfold for that matter turns heads like a car accident on a turnpike, because its NEW. If you want to stick to what you know stick with the oridinary traditional smartphones, want to change it up get get a flip or fold. I hope Iphone has something Unique up their sleeves, it doesn't even need to be Flip maybe Dedicated iPhone Glasses, something NEW. Take away from this long comment is... its 2023 smartphones are boring.

I honestly think they totally correctly identified a target audience that didn't have a product that suited them, and then refined a lot of the features that put it on par with other formats of phones. I'm definitely that target audience. I've used iphone for a decade and a half and have considered switching many times, but I think this will be what actually makes me switch. I love the idea of being able to physically close the phone. I love having a main camera viewfinder. I love that it will remind me less of a smartphone and more of my first phone, but still have smart phone convenience and quality. Or like carrying a small flip notepad around. And I never buy the highest end phone a brand offers any ways. I like a mid-range phone that is portable and comes with many years of updates. I'm definitely adding this phone to my "saving up" financial plans because I haven't updated my phone in a dreadful long time, and the idea of holding this flip phone as my everyday digital companion really appeals to me.

Based on your description, I see this phone was also aimed at Blackberry users before. Very convenient for quick occasional checks on basic stuff like time, calendar, messages, and notifs.

Be honest, I'm getting tired of it and switching back to my Fold 3, I miss having big screen and spen. I thought I was gonna like it, but I guess not. I'm selling my Flip 5 to co worker.

The Flip 5 is overhyped by YT creators and influencers and the reality is that the novelty factor wears thin very quickly and unless you are into vlogs or love taking selfies then this has little to offer other than a one trick pony of flipping. As with the OG flip craze of decades ago, I expect this will eventually settle down to be a niche phone segment, but it may need to be a mid-range choice rather than a flagship, as £1050 is way too much for what you get and if Apple did it at this price, every anti-Apple Android superfan would be mega-trolling Apple!!!

Used it for a week then I got a scratch at the back with a case on, how is that even possible.

I've learned that you NEVER buy a samsung when it comes out. I got burned a few times by trying to have the latest quickly. Knowing that samsung is not selling phones like hotcakes anymore, I anticipated that prices would go down if you wait. So, I was able to upgrade my s22 ultra to s23 ultra for 250 bucks, and now just got the flip 5 for 530 bucks (after trading in a old android phone I had on a drawer, not my s23 ultra). Plus I know that if I I do decide to upgrade next year, I will get back the 530 bucks plus possibly more as trade in value.

Every review I've seen leads me to believe that if you already have an S23 Ultra, then you shouldn't trade it in for the Fold 5 or the Flip 5.

I grew up on android my whole life recently had an iPhone 11 for 2 yrs currently just got zflip 5 Im not a brand hog by any means

The outer display is really a giant smartwatch.

Z flip 5 is better then the z fold as it's less heavy and big more compact I'm over huge phones tbh
