Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

One of the best things that came out of David Allen's Getting Things Done book was the concept of the "tickler file". Your very own internal postal service. Here's how to set one up in Apple's Reminders.

    Thank you, Carl! I've been a subscriber for a few years now and I always get something from your videos. So thank you so much. I also lived in Japan for 10 years (88-98) and I relate to so many of the things you mention about living as an expat in an Asian country. Thanks again for all you do! I really appreciate your work!

    Definitely a Thumbs up on this video. First of all, I had never heard of a “Tickler File” because I never really did dig into GTD. That said, this will help me avoid forgetting annual renewals and especially a LONGER term reminders.

    Hi, I am new to this and I really appreciate the simplicity of the explanation. I've just subscribed so will be enjoying a few more of your videos. I found your videos by asking a question in safari, that being if I delete a smart list does it also delete the contents of it that are in other lists?

    Nice video. I am wondering how to integrate a Tickler file in your Time Sector method using only Apple Reminders? Could it be the same thing as the Long-term & On hold list?

    I use it as is in this video. Todoist is my main task manager, and that directs my day. However, it's also possible to use your calendar for this too. The reason I don't is I like the way Reminders gives me alerts.

  • @KU-_-BA
    @KU-_-BA Жыл бұрын

    What about alerts in calendar? Passport has expiration date. So this is perfect for keeping that info in calendar as event. And alert could be the trigger for creating project or task. Ofcourse alerts from reminders are more reliable, but in calendar you have an option to create e-mail alert which is great. I personally don't like tasks hanging in my todo list. I moved my long term list to apple notes and all i need to do, is checking that list in my last weekly review when month ends (last saturday). I like You Carl, because you made my life simpler and i have to admit, that this tickler file list is unnecessary. I like how i organized my productivity system. It is now so simple and i can do my job. Apple reminders as todo list has everything i need. Once again, thank you very much. You really help people.

    Have to answer to myself :) Maybe it is not that simple, because user need to create alert in macos calendar, on iphone it is impossible to create alert longer than 1 week. Still i'd like to move all terms to calendar. I will work on that in my system and i will send feedback to apple, because it is very strange that one can not create alert other than system defined.

    For me, it's the alert coming up in Reminders that triggers me to create a task from the alert. I can also postpone the task a week or two into the future if when the task in Reminders comes up I am not in a position to do the task.

    Carl: Curious how you attached an email or a URL in Reminders in Mac OS, while on a MacBook Pro ?

  • @Carl_Pullein

    @Carl_Pullein

    Жыл бұрын

    On an iPad, you can drag and drop the email to create a task. You can also do this on an iPhone, but you need to very good with your fingers to make that work.

    @@LJ-jq8og Hmmm this will sound strange, but the answer is "sometimes". It depends on Apple. Sometimes it works, then they update the OS and it stops working.

    I am confused - why would ALL of these not just go into your "next month" or "long term" folder in Todoist, as per your Time Sector method?

  • @Carl_Pullein

    This isn't necessarily the way I do it, James; this is for all those asking me about how to set up a digital "tickler file". I do keep my bill reminders in Reminders though, I am very strict about what goes into my task manager and Reminder's notifications are better than Todoist.
