I'm glad you shared your thoughts on synthetic vs merino. I was actually eyeing that same ibex shirt (mens version) and bought a pair of merino smart wool boxers and love them. Yes, very expensive especially for such simple items but you are paying for the material and I think it is worth having a natural fiber for base layers against the skin where odors are created, held, and then transferred to outer layers of gear/clothing. Great informative video Kelly!

You have become a hiking clothing expert. You could be a spokesperson for a clothing line. Hope planning is going well. Did you know Darn Tough socks are made in Vermont and they do make socks from Merino wool. I don't know if the PCT is hot or cold but if it's hot, white should be your color of choice. I hope you are having fun getting ready for your adventure. Please stay well, healthy, and safe. Had a black cat just like yours and it was the most loving cat I ever had.

Laundry stripping will help with the shirt. 1/2 cup washing soda, 1/2 borax powder, 1 cup powder detergent. Hot water, soak for at least 4 hours.

Thing about Zero drop is that they might not work for you when you hike, or even if people transition with them wrong. But the difference is when you grow old and start to get balance problems because you are basically making the knees, ancles and your back Weaker! with having that amount of cushion that you will not problaby wear anymore when you are 70 years old. Shoes are different, but walking barefoot is the same for everyone since they where born. So dont give up on Zero Drop Altras, Xero Shoes or Vivo barefoot. Also do some research on Earthing too.

Frogg Toggs are great, especially for the money. I've had the same Road Toad jacket and pants for 6 years and use it on all of my motorcycle trips. Doubles as an extra layer to keep the cold out when needed too.

Does the Frogg Togg jacket manage to keep you fully dry? I just picked up a $30 jacket from them to test out before investing in a much more expensive option.

@@gabriellemarella9127 Pretty much, yes. Being on a motorcycle at speed in rain is a little different animal because after a while some moisture will always get in around the neck. I have also gotten wet around the hips a couple of times but am not sure of the source of that leak. It likely is the zipper on the pants pocket. But mostly the hip leak was in torrential downpours where the traffic was down to 20 mph just to maintain visibility, in Florida and in New England. Put it this way, I've ridden 44 states, many of the multiple times, and only have $100 worth of rain gear with me. I have zero complaint about Frogg Toggs.

For wool products keep an eye out for their sales - I never pay full retail for that type of gear. Icebreaker & Duckworth both have some great sales on wool (in the off season typically). Re: the Appalachian Gear Co. They are homies who recently moved out of Charlotte to a larger facility in Kings Mt. It is now much easier to get their products, but you still need to sign up for their emails. If you can't get a Melly, I encourage you to try Burgeon Outdoors in NH. I'm not sure I don't like the Burgeon better (FYI). Paka also makes some great blended alpaca T's which are great for hot weather.

I wear my Appalachian Gear Co hoodie on and off trail ALL👏OF👏THE👏TIME👏! I definitely love and recommend that thing. If you want to try another brand of merino underwear, check out Decathlon. They are really comfortable, reasonably priced and have been holding up great for me. I've got the NatureHike down pants and booties as well and they are a great budget game changer that strech my 20° quilt for a longer season. For anyone thinking about buying them with a little extra time before they need them, they are cheaper from Aliexpress and the exact same models sold on Amazon. Good luck on the PCT!

Hey Kelly! Best hat on the trail! Wolf is my favorite Jerry guitar and is one of my favorite guitars period. Mayer played it last year at Citi field, what a show! Darn tough socks are the best, as is their guarantee/ warranty, but I feel bad taking back socks that I wore thru, even if they want you to, so when I do warranty a pair I buy a new pair too. I want to support the companies that support us so that’s why I do what I do. I wish those lone peaks you have were my size, they are my fav shoe and I just killed my last pair. I hope that people watch this entire video, it is so well done. 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful

My feet grew in size, from 9.5D to 12Wide. There are 28 bones in the foot and walking distance, carrying weight, causes foot bones to spread out and flatten. This adaptation is painful for some.
