I hiked in 2015, to get up early I had to promise myself a hot coffee w/chocolate and a pak of hot Raman at 12:00 everyday. It really perked me up for about 1 to 2 hr. When it was hot and humid I would find a creek usually in heavy cover take off me shoes and socks and soak my feet for 10+min in the cold water. It sure cooled me off for a while And made my feet shrink. 50 ft downstream of course. When I was in Pennsylvania at the park where u do the 1/2 gal challenge it was 105 degrees in the shade, I did not even get ice cream and that is my trail name!. Do get up early and stop from 12 to 4 and nap. It feels amazing to do 3 miles before breakfast ! Just do it, it’s so much cooler! Carry on an keep being yourself.

You are awesome, my friend. From a circumferentially challenged guy with gout problems who misses his old hiking days you have an exceptional set of cojones to get your ass out and do it. Keep heading north.

Beautiful views, I did look up the rattlesnake sound....which was pretty much like the sound you recorded. Whew maybe that was a close one.

I'm impressed you use a bear bag,four thru hikes and many smaller hikes and I have never hung my food after forty years you would think I would have been eaten by now.

Please be careful when you hear that rattle. Even I, far away from the Netherlands (where we have no rattlesnakes) know that that sound means get back 😊 Think you might have been very lucky that moment that nothing has happened.

That sign damage might be porcupines.

Question...what are you using to allow people to track you from home? I will be doing the section between Boots Off and Damascus later this year solo so could use a tracking system as well. Hike safe my friend.
