I make this every Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is soooo good. I have to double it to feed this big family. If I didn't bring it to the big family Christmas dinners there would be Mutiny!! Good old Southern recipe

Dear Brenda z& David°° Thank you for the tip on easY peeling a sweet tater ! ____ Is there a Tip, am eeasy way to peel fresh Turnips ? I stew them, or roast in the 0ven. Peeling them is hard --- Your recipes, & life lessons d0 inspire me ❤

Hey Brenda! Great to see you and David. I have a little tip for you when making sweet potato casserole. I use my kitchen aid mixer with the whisk attachment to whip the sweet potatoes and all the strings stay on the whisk. You get a very smooth and creamy consistency. Anyway, hope you all stay well. Turnips were added to potatoes, boiled and mashed together Also were added to soup. They were boiled And mashed alone and served like mashed potatoes

Your baking dish is so gorgeous! It looks so antique and beautiful. I love your videos… I use your recipes all the time, my husband loves your food.

I knew that flour didn't go into the sweet potato mixture, I was saying nooooooo .. lol With flour it will be more cake like..

@@theresadowns3457 Mix the mashed (and cooled) sweet potatoes, white sugar, eggs, salt, butter, milk, and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl until well-combined. Pour the mixture into a baking dish. Mix the brown sugar and flour in a separate bowl. Cut in the butter and stir in the pecans. Sprinkle the topping over the sweet potato mixture

I love good ole Sweet Potato Casserole. I love the memories I have of watching my Grandma make different dishes for social doings in the little town they lived in. She made potato salad of course, and a variety of casseroles and cold salads like the green stuff that ladies made with grated carrots in it..(not my favorite) Those were the days. The town only had 100 people in it, and it was surrounded by rolling prairie ranchlands. Those women cooked and baked recipes that had been in their families for decades!! They made a cookbook years ago with recipes those ladies allowed to be published! Of course there were several recipes that the women wouldn't give out. Lol! My Gramma made so many delicious things and excellent pies. She didn't use box mixes back then. Homemade everything! Her devilsfood cake was amazing with homecooked frosting that she would pour over the cake; it would harden up a little and was absolutely delicious. Love your videos because they remind me of those days, and you and David are great!! Great recipe.

NO Brenda yams and sweet potatoes are NOT same thing. They are two different potatoes. The yam looks like tree bark while a sweet potato is more of a reddish color. They don't have the sweet taste of a sweet potato.

People sometimes call sweet potatoes "yams", but they really aren't. It's highly unlikely you will find yams in the U. S. They are in tropical areas like the Caribbean, South America and Africa and are from a whole different plant family. My mother loves this casserole and always makes a big 'ole dish of it for the holidays and she calls it a Sweet Potato Souffle'. I thought the flour only went in the topping.

you can buy yams in the southern part of the US I know, but you are right they are different..

They both are passed on but they was married for over 55 years.

👍🏻😁Thank You for sharing the "dropsies & oopsies"...my husband gets agitated because I drop stuff constantly and he doesn't understand RA and the chemo meds associated with it, the carpal tunnel syndrome release surgery and I still have probles with round objects, or the manner in which I do things because of my previous injuries of a complete reverse shoulder replacement surgery on one shoulder followed by a rotator cuff repair on the other shoulder...not a good situation when it happens which is quite often(daily)..lhe always nastily says, "Is that normal??"🤬😣

Ms Brenda I love sweet potatoes and their good for you! I make them all the time but this is a different way,and I’m going to try them😋. I also love turnip’s I boil them in water with bacon grease salt and pepper then when they’re done I drain off some of liquid and add sugar,that with fried cabbage and corn bread it’s a meal. David I love that old knife they don’t make them like that anymore. This casserole is like dessert too me, I love it❤️. Do you have a recipe for blackberry Jan cake? My grandma used to make it ,it has a icing like you put on German chocolate cake..Yummy 👍. Thank you for sharing this with us. Love you both❤️

We love baked sweet potatoes and have made a similar casserole as yours. Yams have rough, dark brown skin that is often compared to tree bark, and their flesh is dry and starchy like a regular potato. Sweet potatoes have smooth reddish skin, softer flesh (when cooked), and a sweet flavor.

They're similar to carrots in taste and texture, but you're really missing out on one of the best flavors of comfort food 🍠

@@sheilac1845 I usually don't get political and have purposely shut down channels because I don't like the noise but if you want to mad at someone get mad at Putin for starting the war over natural gas lines running through Europe and get mad at the oil companies that are gouging us at the pump and remember alot of our price increases are just corporate greed.Theres no reason for tampons to be 10.00 a box or a pound of strawberries to be 6.99.Joe is trying to ease up on the gas tax.Thats why a gallon of gas is almost 8.00 in LA and almost 10 in New York City.All of this inflation is not his fault.

That looks good Brenda. I love sweet potatoes. My daddy didn’t like them. He said that was about all he had to eat as a kid. They grew them. They were very poor.

Looks real good bet it smells good while it's cooking.

Looks amazing, the only thing I would have added was some cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.

Just cut the end off the spatula it will still work fine. Save you money .

Flour doesn’t go in the sweet potato casserole. The flour goes in the topping only !!
