My father was a butcher in a local grocery store. He made the sausage that the store sold. He always made a special batch that would burn the fire out of your mouth. That batch would always sell out first. He also made a deviled ham salad. I would give a year of my life if I could have that ham and sausage that my father made. The crap they make today should be illegal. :)

I just got through grinding up pork and peppers for sausage. Got 48 patties and a 12 links. Make your mouth water 💦😊. Just carrying on tradition.
Well, I’ve been wondering why my pepper come out so hot each year, maybe that’s just not a good thing. Lol. Thanks, JD.

This was a great story! My mom was born in a log cabin in Kentucky in1929 and although both parents passed away when she and her siblings were little, she had a few stories similar to something like this.

I need to share this story with my husband! He and his dad plant some HOT peppers every season. No one in the family can eat them but my husband and his dad!
The green beans dried on a string, took me back to my younger days. I had them prepared in Virginia when I was visiting. Dried beans with the dry hulls cooked up like soup beans. It sounded awful to me but to my surprise I loved them! So I went on to put them up myself after that.

Thank you, JD. I needed a good laugh. This story reminded me of the time daddy had my oldest sister helping him plant watermelon seeds.she grew tired of working in the hot sun ,so she poured the rest of the seeds in an old stumphole near the end of the garden ,needless to say it didn't take daddy long to figure out why there were only a few watermelon plants that came up in the field. God bless.

My dad came up with a garden plan one year that involved each one of us planting seeds when we got home from work or school. We laid the rows out at one time and he laid the seeds out. We could choose whatever we wanted to mess with. It didn't matter what because the plan was that there was a brick to mark your stopping point and the next person started from there. He kept saying, "Make sure you move that brick." As time passed and things were coming up, neighbors would stop to check on the garden as neighbors do and everything looked good until you got to a place near the center. There was about half a row where plants were all jumbled up. People would ask each of us what we planted and we would show them and tell them about the garden plan. Then they would ask who planted that mess in the center and we would tell them---daddy and that is soup. He hadn't moved the brick.
i remember grandpa telling me that if you plant peppers when you are mad they will be hot. i didnt beleive him till i plant sweet banana peppers when i was mad and they came out hot.

Oh the memories.... My daddy and his brothers would slaughter a hog every winter and use my daddy's home grown peppers to season the sausage. It was just hot enough to burn but not so hot that you couldn't eat it. Haven't had that sausage in years but in my mind I can still see mama standing at the stove cooking that fresh sausage and smell it cooking. The sausage we put up was good but nothing comes close to that fresh, just ground and cased up/ pattied sausage. Thanks for posting this story.
