I am Christian and I worked in Mindanao for over a decade. Many of my most loyal friends when I lived and worked there are Muslims. Some areas of Mindanao are travel risk I must admit but a much wider area are safe. As anywhere else in the world and in the Philippines, caution and common sense are a must when venturing into a new area. Your local resident friends can provide you valuable information. For those who intend to travel to Mindanao, do not rely on information from people who have never been there. They will give you hearsays and biased opinions. IF you decide to go, as a starter, begin with Camiguin Island, Dinagat Islands and Siargao Islands. Safe journeys every one and enjoy.

As a Canadian who loved a woman from Cabasagan (near Matanao), I have spent MANY MANY beautiful nights and days on Samal Island. None of my time in the Philippines was spent in tourist areas - except for maybe exploring Davao City - now my favourite city on the planet. I have been to Digos and much farther south. I never felt threatened. Not once. I felt at home, welcomed.

This song should be played in every tourist destinations in the Philippines.

Absolutely love the Philippines, went to meet my girlfriends family in Cainta and they filled me up on food and took me everywhere 😂 lovely people and fantastic country

Indigenous Filipinos are black, that's why they were and are still named "Negritos" (Spanish for "little blacks"). I am not talking about the Malay-Asian mixed Filipinos. You all should celebrate Filipino blackness, it's beautiful!

Mindanao island is actually quite big, and most cities are safe. It's sad to hear that we are too easily prejudiced here in the south. Anyways, try visiting Siargao Island the next time you swing by. It's the surfing capital of the Philippines. It's in Mindanao & I hope it will change your perception of the south.
