Apartment Hunting in Seoul | Seoul Apartment Tour | Rent prices, how to use Korean apartment apps

Heya homies! I went apartment hunting not too long ago so here are the apartments I viewed, along with tips if you're also apartment hunting, and lastly we'll be going through how to use a Korean apartment finding app!
I talked about remodeling, would you guys like to see a full video on the whole transformation/makeover? Or separate videos like pt.1 pt.2 type of thing? Let me know!! Also very important, just for the privacy of my friend I will not be disclosing the places that we looked at, so please don’t message me asking where that apartment was and whatnot. Thank you!

    From everything I've seen, there are no anti discrimination laws protecting foreigners in S Korea, which I'm sure you already know from living there. I hope you're able to find the right place for you and Albie! All your 'wow's about the Gangnam apartment were so funny! 😂

    I feel that overall, Korea has gone SO far backwards when it comes to being foreigner friendly and they are no longer trying to hide it. Maybe because I have been more active on social media and seeing my POC being heavily mistreated in Seoul, being denied entry to clubs, physically pushed by bouncers, being told "no blacks" like COME ON! Anyway, I hope you find a good place 💗

    You should check out Noksapyeon, Itaewon and Hangangjin. Lots of foreigners live there so they are used to renting out to foreigners. The houses are more traditional but also have more space. Also you can request that the apartment is painted or re-wallpapered before you move, I did and I think its a pretty common/normal request.

    There is a housing problem in CIudad de México, completely opposite to what happened to you. Here locals are basically denied to even try to rent a place and they are so impossibly expesive that they favor foreigners (they don´t even ask for the same stuff, if you´re a foreigner and can afford it, it´s yours not questios asked).That being said, what happened to you is just purely discrimination, their laws are very stric against inmigrants, but they fail to protect them and that´s just bs, specially since you´ve been there for so many years now. I hope you can find soon a beautiful place, apartment hunting is stresing enough that you now have to worry to not being allowed to rent 🫂

    Renting a place is getting so much difficult and it is getting so expencive everywhere in capitals. It was a nightmare to suddenly move. I just got super lucky and got a place very decent for the price they asked in a good beautiful neighbourhood that is quiet. I remember when i lived in Seoul before the whole thing and my area wasn't popular for us foreigners ( i started to see way more people around just few months before leaving), wasn't the best place, kinda boring but near the subway quiet area, really amazing cheap independent mart that i discovered once by mistake and all the koreans at the shops and all were so friendly and nice with me during the years i stayed there. I even had a Daiso near by. Ahh i miss Daiso! I miss the area in a way. Look at me here typing this from a boring small ,european capital.

    I know this was posted a while ago, but I'm planning to move to Korea next year so I have been watching a lot of apartment hunting videos. I stumbled upon a term coincidentally in 1 video, that the other several videos I watched didn't mention (or probably didn't even know about), and that is 'jonip'. I think this could be related to why they don't want to rent to foreigners. I didn't understand the full meaning of the term, but it's apparently like a contract/document that is necessary for foreigners to rent the place. A lot of people try to evade taxes and illegally list their property, so that is possibly why they wouldn't rent to a foreigner.

    I don't know if you talked about it later in the video, and you probably know this already, but since I'm currently watching the intro, I want to comment that what the realtor said (you can't be registered in some apartments), it's likely because foreigners need a different contract to rent apartments (called jonip), which lets you then register your residence on your alien registration card, or generally officialize it to the immigration office. Many landlords do not wanna pay taxes, so they don't declare owning the apartments, and foreigners can't be given the contract they need to legally stay in Korea, or the owners would have to face the consequences of illegally owning and renting properties. Rather than a choice (even if I'm sure there are very ignorant people who specifically choose to not allow foreigners to live in their apartments just because), it's more of a "wanting to not get busted by the authority" matter haha In the (very likely) scenario where you know this already, then it's more of a comment aimed at foreigners that would like to rent a place in South Korea in the future (especially if you can only give a low deposit. Those that accept very low deposits, for example under 7k/10k, are more likely to not pay taxes, and not be registered legally. Don't run the risk of compromising your stay just to get lower prices, it's not worth it! And you can totally find cheap places that do everything legally). So be safe, and always ask if the landlord gives a jonip. Without it, you cannot register your residence, and you can get in trouble with the immigration.

When I engage into apartment hunting videos I like the whole experience of the person finding ✨the one ✨ and the process of moving, the reveal and the final decorated tour. You got me all excited girl! And is the second time it happens!! 😭😭😭😭

    I love that she shows failed apartment hunts! I live in NYC and everyone I know goes through this all the time - we want to move, nothing in our price range is worth the cost of moving, and then we stay in our old apartments 🙃 not everyone has the same privilege of those wealthy KZreadrs that are moving all the time!! Moving is expensive and not realistic for lots of people

  • @YOHOMEGIRL

    @YOHOMEGIRL

    2 жыл бұрын

    Heya Luna, thanks for bringing this up! I think your definition on "clickbaited" is very different to what it means, clickbait is meant to be misleading (title & content do not match). I think instead there are assumptions that were made based on the title/thumbnail of the video and those assumptions were not met. The assumptions are, oh the person found an apartment, theres going to be an apartment tour and then a reveal of a decorated apartment. However, in the title, I did exactly what written there.. I showed you apartments, you got tours of those apartments, showed rent prices, and how to use how use Korean apt finding apps. So there isn't any clickbaity about it at all. Additionally, I'm just showing you how life is- yes I did want to move, but was the possible for me this year? No, it wasn't- and that was beyond my power. But I thought I would still share my experience! :) Also, maybe others do apartment tours like how you had stated, but not everyone does that. I personally like seeing the steps put into episodes: apt hunting > empty apt tour > decorating process > final apartment tour!! It's really exciting for me to see, and makes me look forward to the next episode! :D It's all a matter of preference! This for me is how I like to present my apartment tour videos. Next year hopefully I move, but if I don't I will again show you the whole process of it! I hope you'll be able to appreciate that video nonetheless! Thanks for watching my other videos and being a supporter Luna. Hope ta see ya in the next one~

    @@kristena4188 Thank you Kristen! Also, I didn't even think about the whole privilege side of it! But yes, very much so that!!! I normally watch other Korean apartment tour videos, just because I like to see how they were able to decorate and such because we have such a more limited way of decorating. :)

    my walls are already with wallpaper ;; - ;; and i have been doing decals but bc my painting and such have been on those walls.. and i always get so much sunlight. actually behind the painting you can see that the wallpaper has a darker tint than the parts that werent covered by something. so now my walls look reaaal weird with these blotches of darker wallpaper ;; - ;;

    Being half Korean, born raised in Korea until my mid teens and also married to a Korean, let me tell you, if Koreans in US are treated 1/10% bad as how they treat foreigners in Korea, they will be kicking, screaming, and crying bloody murder. I visit Korea once or twice a year for the last 30+ years since moving to US in my teens and the root racism never changed.
