    Do your best to prepare, and the rest is up to fate! The preparation is more valuable than the grade you will get on the AP test. No matter score you get, you will be a better version of yourself if you give it your all. I am speaking from the POV of someone that has done very well and very poorly on exams. I wish you the best with the rest of the school year and the AP test!

    76 is not Sloppy! when f ' =0 in a single point dosn't necessarily mean f is not increasing! like y= x^3 when x=0, y'=0, but the graph is still increasing.

  • @chrismanson3211

    @chrismanson3211

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'm sorry but not true. Example: y = x^3 --> y' = 3x^2 set = 0 to find critical values. 3x^2=0 yields x=0. Now, create your sign graph test points x=-1 (yeilds positive when you plug into y') next test point of x = 1 (also yeilds positive when you plug into y') but plug in zero, 0=0 niether pos. nor neg. meaning it is not increasing or decreasing at zero. y=x^3 is increasing everywhere except zero. Interval of increasing (-inf, 0)U(0, inf). It is at momentary rest at x=0. The reason for this is if you calculate all the tangent lines as you get close to zero on y=x^3, they becaome a horizontal tangent when approaching zero. All the infinite tangents slopes are positive except for the horizontal tangent at x=0. Now, corners & cusps (i.e y=abs(x) and y = x^(2/3) ) are some strange birds but are doable.

    @@vinteachesmath hi sorry for late reply but shouldn't it be e since f is increasing [4,5]

  • @chrismanson3211

    @chrismanson3211

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@atomkom773 Since we're given the graph of f'(x), anywhere the graph is above the x-axis is where f(x) is increasing. Since the graph of f'(x) is below the x-axis (negative) on [4,5] means that f(x) must be decreasing on that same interval. It can also be interpreted that f"(x) is positive on [4,5] since f'(x) is increasing on that interval. It helps me to think about the slopes of the infinite tangents to the curves of f(x) to get a general idea of f'(x), when going in "that direction". The problem with this question is when x = -2,1,3 . f'(x) is neither positive or negative, meaning f(x) is not increasing nor decreasing at those x's so answer B is not correct. The true answer should be (-2, 1) U (1 , 3) excluding -2,1 & 3 like vinteachsmath wonderfully demonstrates in 76.

    Aside from learning the multiple choice, practice free response questions and pay close attention to the rubrics. It is important to know as much about the scoring process as you can. Another activity I do with students is looking at the sample responses on the AP FRQ page so you can see what a full and partial credit solution looks like in the FRQ section. If you need more specific practice, I would download the list of all the topics, google "ap calculus ab or bc course description" and look for the pages that have all 10 units with a list of all the topics. Go through the list and practice the topics you feel weakest with. I think I will have to make a tips for a 5 video in the future!

    If you watch the movie Stand and Deliver (1988), you will see the test questions they do resemble a lot of the practice questions you will see in your current classroom. Calculus can stand the test of time! The research that professors do will always be evolving. Math is a growing subject! It will be very interesting to see where math and technology go in the next century.
