Aortic Valve Replacement | Recovery Story

Simon knew from a young age he would need an aortic valve replacement sometime in his early thirties. Little did he know that surgery would hit just a few days before a pandemic. This is his recovery story.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I had valve replacement 3 weeks ago. It has been the most painful experience I have gone through however keeping informed and knowing what to expect after surgery helped me get through.

I had this surgery at 15 years old in March 2011, tissue valve replacement. Recovery took about 2 months and I had an annoying cough through most of it. I'm currently super active, weightlifting and running. I did full contact martial arts, skiing, and squash back before covid happened. My last checkup in 2016 showed excellent and my next checkup is January 2022. Just a reference for anyone wondering about the tissue valve.

I’ve had AVR with a mechanical one almost a year ago now, that was October 6, 2020. I started working after 3months. It’s always nice to hear others talking about the same experience that i had, like I always have this feeling that these are my people, count me in!

My 13 year old son has an bicuspid aortic valve. It was detected when he was 5 by coincidence. His leak was mild until last year it progressed to moderate and he is taking blood pressure medicine for a week now. We will go back to check in 6 months. I’m very nervous and confused! I just wanna share my story to support you and tell you that I’m sending prayers to you and your son! Wish you a smooth recovery!

@@jijijiji7290 I know how scary it is to hear that kind of news. It is a good thing they were able to detect it and now can keep him monitored. I should be getting our surgery date soon. We had a thing called nuclear imaging done last week. I will keep you all posted! Thank you for the support! I will keep you and your son in my prayers❤

This is great to hear, I live in the UK, I am a bit older than this gentleman I am in line for having an aortic valve replacement I am going to be having a mechanical one made of graphite I am not sure how long I’ve had my problem but it was picked up two years ago when I had my first spine injection it was picked up from a pre-op assessment, and had been monitored for the last couple of years and the hospital consultant said will be monitoring yearly and before I know it I am now in line to have this operation which is very scary I am a bag of nerves already and I will be going into hospital next Thursday, July 1st & my operation date is on the second so anything I can watch like this give me some ideas not looking forward to it but we know it’s got to be done Big thank you for this video and the gentleman who is explaining. Hi Brian I know it’s very scary I had mine done almost 4 weeks ago now on 1st June. The care I received from the NHS in ICU and back on the ward after my surgery was fantastic. It’s a slower recovery then I thought but everyone heals differently. I’m managing little walks up and down my road now. All the very best for your surgery ❤️

That's funny I didn't have a murmur when I was young but I grew a murmur as I became older. So I grew into a murmur.
