Awesome maps and great video! Only thing I want to say is that empty space is important; like for the 13th place map, yeah the ocean is empty and bland, but those farmlands provide a lot to the map. It's like the background of a painting, you're not really supposed to focus on it too much, it's just supposed to be in the back of your head giving you a sense of the artist's intentions and emotions. Like the ice waste in the 15th place map, they might not be incredibly detailed, but it provides setting.

Exactly my thoughts. Its winter we're talking about... places are not as lively so idk what this man is talking about.

Those 50 minutes were like going to an art museum and watching great pictures, for me. All of the scenarios did look stunning, Well done everyone. I can just imagine how time consumeing it is to create such beautiful maps. Imo Zak you can maybe Show-Case the top3 scenarios more indepth.

Thanks for the nice feedback (4th place). I will definitely join again in January! I gotta study those 1st place techniques ;)

Awesome series ZeroEmpires. Please do more! Hats off to everyone who entered the competition. I've spent dozens of hours playing with AoE2 map editor since I was a kid and I gotta say viewing these entries was a real treat.

Man this is mind blowing!! We have to see more map competitions!

First scenario was amazing and deserved first place. It was for sure made by someone with a lot of experience with old AoK mapmaking. AoK heaven has scenarios like this that use lots of triggers and bugs in the game engine to get effects you normally couldn't. Was nostalgiabombed looking at it cause it reminded me of a lot of old rpg type scenarios that were popular back in the day.

Yeah, the remaster version didn't change the game drastically, so typically old scenarios and tricks still work on the newer version. On top of that, there're new things like trigger conditions and effects, and variables to give you more creative freedom. Thanks for the comment about my work, really do appreciate it!

I love all the fresh possibilities the new world editor adds to the creation of amazing fantasy maps. I can't wait to rebuild a campaign mission of the medieval happenings of my village and valley! It is very welcoming to see a bigger platform for the map editors by doing such competitions. Great idea! Cool video format. More please!

For the number 1 map, they took advantage of how town centers are coded into the game. The town center has the main block which is a 4x4 base that provides the actual functionality of the town center (drop resources off, make villagers, and arrows onto the enemies). The next 4x4 part is the "wings" of the town center, the last is a 2x2 part which is the main building appearance of a town center.

I'd love to see more map competitions!

i mean srsly. this game is a masterpiece. its from 1999 survives all the time up to now and keeps rocking. who would have imagined that a game that was part of a windows pc in some places or just a game your bought 1999 turns out to be such fantastic. i even have the 2 books of the original aoe2 and aoc explaining the units with additional backround knowledge.

The half TC i made that looks like tents were using a little trick with invisible tiles, as a TC has multiple secment in different tiles. The invisible tile itself i copied from other’s people scenario, and has been an useage to my previous scenarios as well! As how to create it, i have no idea.

Looks like scenario design in the definitive edition is going to be on a whole different level than the older versions of the game.

Can you make a new video in which you interview the creator of map ranked 1 and ask him to explain how he managed to do some stuffs? I would enjoy watching it.

I used to made scenario maps, just for myself.. like a hobby.. it was HD version, then appeared newer versions.. DLC.. and unfortunately there was no compatibility with older scenarios.. and I gave up. I hope now, this version will be upgradable with newer versions.. I mean scenarios that I am making now will be suitable with future versions..

This is what Definitive Edition lacks. Custom scenarios such as GoT, Zombie, CBA Towers. Custom maps like these ones, creativity. Watching this was like looking paintings at a museum.

It's when I see this from the community that I am sure they could do some epic level campaigns if some of them would organize!

You can play all the scenarios you create, just like a normal game. You just go to 'Test' whenever you ready and it begins.

In order to get solely the wings of the TC when you create a scenario, you need to use the teleportation trigger on the TC and only the wings will teleport. It’s just a funny bug I guess

AoE2 can be a really good RPG game, if you quadruple the map, make multiple maps (like when you reach a point then you load into a different map) Could really work well like 10 years ago, maybe today who knows

Yes, you can record your voice and make it be played when you want. You have to master file management and AOE maps' editor, but the possibility IS real !

@@gghrtx2 VO audio is a real pain in AOE2: DE currently. It is possible but not nearly as easy as it used to be with HD or AOC as you need to use a dedicated third party editor to convert your .wav files into the proprietary format.

I seen a red target on the mini map for one of the scenarios, so I think they were attacking a hidden Red target, and then just placed the targets on them. But I don't make maps so I'm not sure.

Numbers 6-3 were good contenders for number 2, I do not think number 2 was better than the other ones.

great maps but all of them had 1 common problem. Trees stack next to buildings... very hard to find see the buildings. plus empty space is needed. is cold out there but some triggers could have 1 caravan trying to cross the land or ships the empty space of water.
