Galley Raid Jepsen Then the Mongols invaded China and said: ''We have invaded China. Respect us, otherwise we might invade you as well''. ''Okay'' they said and fought the Mongols, who then died in a tornado. Then, later, they invaded Japan again and had a really nice time fighting the Japanese, but then died in a tornado.

Jon De Oliveira I don't care. We were just referencing another video, no needs to teach me some history lessons
Dear Spirit of the Law, I have no idea how you do this, but you influenced my life greatly with your videos: 1) First, you managed to get me interested in AoE2, a game I wasn't too fond of when I was a child. 2) Second, you made me actually buy the game on Steam on a sale. With all expansions. 3) Third, I got even more interested and started to try it out. Now I am on my way to beat all campaigns of all expansions. 4) And last but not least, on November 6th I'll play in my first MP game with some friends - that I even organized myself! My civilization? Japan, of course! I don't know how you did that, but keep up the good work!
I will be amazed beyond words if you're somehow able to make a 15 minute-long Campaigns vs History video based on the William Wallace scenarios.

It would have made a lot more sense if they skipped Falkirk as the final mission as that was a catastrophic Scottish Defeat, and maybe timeskiped a little to Bannockburn.
Thanks for coming back to life.

Thomas Huffcutt Its suprisingly to see you finished only that one, because by me it is the hardest campaign in Age of Kings, if you dont know the exact way how to proceed in each mission. The easiest one is Saladin, but in other hand the most time consuming, be one hour or more in each Saladin mission is quite ridicilous (at least on hard difficulty) - 75 pop cap, yeey.

It's awesome, pls continue this series :(
Really like these series. Liked + Subbed please make more of these history civs.
More of these soon please!!!
I think that it is worth noting that the animation for the death of nobunaga is the same for all samurai warriors in the game, it is a good detail that brings up the ideology from the samurai culture...it is true that because of several circunstances they were "forced" to commit suicide for doing something dishonorable because of their philosophy (bushido)...so in fact, on the game, samurai can die with this animation or just a simple animation representing that they die during combat, it is a nice detail though... I really enjoy this videos and I'm looking forward to see the rest of the campagins history...you have a great channel, keep it up!!... By the way, if you want or need any translation to Spanish I'll be happy to help...greetings from Argentina!
Finaly another one of these!
btw more plz! this is both entertaining and meaningful. one of the reasons i love aoe and now its better with a personal narrator ^^
this is very reminisant of the extra history videos
Great video!
Nice video, i really appreciated that :)
Fun facts: 1) Emperor Gonara, during his "reign," used to get *stoned and bullied by village children as some sort of village idiot* everyone picked on. Proof that, in time when violence was power, blank titles requiring peace time infrastructure is kinda useless. 2) Gonara had to save up money and plead sponsorship from other clans, and was able to have a coronation ceremony after 10 years of his reign. 3) The warring states, or "sengoku" era, was the height of ruthless samurai era. This meant the Bushido *didn't exist,* betrayal were so common it was hardly "dishonorable" at all, and adopting your own brother or uncle was common for vying for passing on their power through "heirs". Anything to get power. The romanticized bushido most yokels tote today was written by some poor samurai Yamamoto Tsunetomo when their power waned in a warless era, when they were like mere clerks working in a corporation that was their local daimyo, no longer carrying swords but pathetic wooden replicas. His book, Hagakure, is famed for the phrase "武士道と云ふは死ぬ事と見付けたり" or "Bushido is seen as *dying.*" It is a fine example of false glorification during this time period "samurais used to be so honorable and worship the sword! We should return to the past! Never mind I'm a samurai as well and probably have petty ulterior motives like wanting undue respect and power!" And which is why the Imperialist Japan in the 19th, 20th century used it to give your average policemen and "civilian" teachers swords to wear in classrooms so they can scare little children in their heavily oppressed colonies. They also brainwashed their soldiers and gave them useless mass-produced swords "for the bushido spirit!" in modern warfare and given little training on actual swordsmanship so they broke it often by swinging it like a crude club more often than not. "Bushido = death". No wonder they were able to give the "go ahead" to Shinpuu (mistakenly known as Kamikaze in the West), the human torpedo Kaiten, anti-ship bomb-spear divers Fukuryuu, satchel charges 4) the 3 daimyos mentioned to have collectively unified Japan (3:26) are in order, *Oda* Nobunaga, his lackey *Toyotomi* Hideyoshi, and the final winner *Tokugawa* Ieyasu. Toyotomi was a man who had from lowly beginnings and is the reason anyone in Japan likes him (unless they are diehard Nobunaga fans). 5) Having been an average joe more or less, when Toyotomi became the head honcho his peers sneered at how he "couldn't hide his lowly pedigree" because he didn't acquire the taste of *PEDERASTY* and kept sleeping with women only. Back then, sex with little pretty-boys was a sophisticated act. No, it's not "homosexuality" that's the problem, it's *PEDOPHILIA.* 6) Samurai and daimyo during this period were *mostly illiterate* and left any reading up to monks and other "nerds." Taking advantage of this, when *Hideyoshi* ordered massacres in his invasion of Korea ("Kill as many as you can! Your salary is based on your quotas! But heads are too heavy to bring overseas back to Japan so bring me noses. Oh and here's the receipt.") his subordinate daimyo, the Christian *Konishi* Yukinaga, had tried to end the war prematurely (because he was more of a trader-daimyo and commerce dies during wartime) by telling Hideyoshi's outrageous and impractical diplomatic requests were met with an agreement... but a warmongering monk (oxymoronic, I know, but it's Sengoku Japan :p) and Hideyoshi's toady Saisho Jotai read the diplomatic papers out loud correctly...

i like how this scenario had a kind of sequel campaign in AoE3
Please bring this series back!
prefered the first campaign video, but thats because i can't remember who you are talking about^^ but still great video maybe Jeanne d'Arc next? :)
The spanish villager hitting the Cobra car and making it blown to smithereens always, always makes me giggle. Another great video, Spirit of the Law!
Gotta say, I loved finding out about this channel. And I LOVE these "what's the difference"... What I love in AoE is that the liberties they take are always trying to respect history the most while making an entertaining scenario. My favourite campaings were Barbarossa, Joan of Arc. If you could ever make a video about them that would make my day. :D Ps. I cried every time when I was a kid at the of Joan of Arc campaings when the narrator tells us that she's 17. Pss. And hearing Henry the Lion at the end of the Barbarossa, was twist better than M. Night Shyamalan's.
Mitsuhide was killed by a group of his own mercenary ronin (master less samurai) after the battle. They realized they weren't getting paid, so they killed him like anyone would have at the time.

Nice video as always! You should do a new Japanese overview, the one you have is pretty old :p
Great video again, really nice to see the transformation from reality to in game, thank you very much. On a different note however, I think you should really clean up your intro a bit, the music is very nice but the scenes all seem so random and jumbled together, making it a bit confusing
Nice commentary, you must really like Japan. I wanted to recreate this scenario in AoE 3 Asian dynasties, but failed due to lack of scenario editing skills.
I am Japanese and this was my favourite thing to play, but I think that the age of the Samurai was really cool. (Your pronunciation is pretty funny though lol)
Awesome video Spirit, this is one of my favorite historical periods. I was curious about what you said about Nobunaga's death animation and I looked up the Samurai unit on the Wikia AoE wiki, and according to that site, the "seppuku" death animation isn't unique to the Nobunaga unit, but rather is just a standard Samurai death animation. Not sure if this is true or not but I thought I'd let you know.
one of the most memorable scenarios/missions in aoe2 for sure.
You know Oda Nobunaga was bad because he could shoot purple energy blasts.

Hey, if u pushed this to the front I'd love if you pushed the malians to the front of the AK civ overviews, they are by far my new favorite civ. They also have super unique bonuses that I'd LOVE to see gone over (preferably in your mathy fashion). How good are farimba light cav when used in different situations? What proportion of malian infantry to archers will the infantry succeed where other civs won't? Are skirmishers a better option than archers due to the pierce armor? Best use cases for gbeto? Are malian infantry better than light cav against archers? How much better are their camels? Do you need less malian champs than other civs champs to take out a castle? I could go on. Regardless, keep doing what you are doing, been loving the videos!

Yeah, as far Malians are my favourite African civ, Gbeto very powerful unique unit when amassed, can effectively raid in castle age (use for Gbetos to snipe vills and evade infantry), their Halberdiers are pretty much the shield fodder for the front lines - lets say it Huskarl with no gold cost, but lately everyone want to play Random, so I am not enjoying them as much.
