FWIW, Anzac Day commemorates the anniversary of the landing of members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli in 1915 - with a mission to eliminate the Ottoman Empire forces from of the war. It was a catastrophic failure, costing 56,000 Allied lives, including nearly 9000 Aussies and nearly 3000 Kiwis - the first major engagement of Anzac forces in WW1. It's commemorated in both Aus and NZ every April 25th with more reverence than Poppy Day is for UK - as it's a Public Holiday!
