This video is perfect and you are an excellent instructor! I just finished making my very first Roman Shade with no other instruction from anyone but you! I sew simple things, I’m not a seamstress, not even close! 😂 Im telling you this because I always end up with a “mistake” on my sewing projects, but NOT this time! It hangs great (I put screw eyelets just below the rod) and it looks fabulous! Thanks so much for your very informative videos!

I found you and subscribed (I don't usually do that) when I was searching for a way to learn how to make Roman Shades. And then I fell in love with your sewing table. I subscribe and now I'm hooked! What a great video! Very informative! I was so excited to add these to my family's new shades, but we've suddenly decided against Roman shades and now reusing the old roller blinds (with new fabric). Any tips on how you'd make the pocket for the weight rod on a roller blind? We are using only one layer of fabric, so I can't make a pocket with the lining. I was thinking I'd make the pocket using a large French seam? What do you think?

You could just topstitch a pocket onto the back

Just curious why you don't use dowels or rods across the shade to form the pleats. TIA

Dowels are not needed if the right fabric is used, and if the ring spacing is correct :) I have a couple of videos about making shades you might want to check out. There’s one about things to know before you sew a shade, and one on how to make a basic shade.

Well done and easy to follow. I do have a question as I am in the process of making a decorative hem for my shades. I would like to have the first fold directly above the decorative hem to be permanent (won't unfold ) and wonder what I may need to do to accomplish that. Does it mean I must add more length to the body of the shade to allow for that fold so that my overall shade length isn't too short? Or do I incorporate that feature on the decorative hem piece? Any guidance or suggestions you may offer are greatly appreciated.

Yes, you add enough length for the extra pleat, then after all the rings are sewn on tie the lower 2 rings together on each vertical row to create the permanent pleat. Then string as usual :)
