For the ones asking about the best tape to use, I've done some very thorough reserach and this is what I've found. (Of course there are many brands and models of tape, but this is my finding that most original equipment manufacturers are using) 3M VHB 5952 Or 5956 Both are available in 12,7 or 19mm width. 5952 is 1,1mm thick 5956 is 1.5mm thick. The thinner tape works great for brand original accessories and gives a near invisible seam. Thicker is good for 3rd party accessories where fitment sometimes can be less than absolutely perfect and the thicker tape fills the gap so to speak.

I used regular 3M tape as well as adhesive promoter and it gave me a rock solid bond for a while, but now that it's starting to peel a little, I'm definitely trying this!
Nice! And I agree, no need to drill for these smaller spoilers
Nice, straightforward and to the point 👍

So helpful! Thank you!
Dont fancy a big GT wing . I saw a M3 the other day with a massive high wing. Looks good tho your wing,That 3M tape is pretty strong stuff

Purple Monster TV yes mate, it’s very strong when applied correctly
Another good way is to use a smudge of tiger seal on the ends and the middle of the spoiler as well as 3m tape to ensure it really sticks 👍

Jnell nel it’s funny you say that, this boiler has been on the car for about four years and it is my plan in the next couple of weeks to take it off and re-stick it, as one corner has slightly come unstuck, I don’t want to use Tigerseal though as that ruins the paint underneath if it ever needs to be removed again,
thanks mate
There's a video by project something and he tests different double sided tape. He's also very unbiased.
Its 7 degrees outside, I'll wait lol
Great video! Short and to the point. How long does the 3M tape need to fully cure?

Thanks, give it a couple hours before driving..
Should of given it a quick heat before installing?
I found the 3m too thick and I can see the gap between the spoiler and boot with the tape in-between. How can I avoid this?
any particular tape please?
Hi, great video thanks, would you advise the exact 3m tape used please, or am I being stupid and have missed it somewhere. And, I have seen another video to assist final locating by using tape to allow the spoiler to be folded backwards...

Bob Dunn thanks mate, I honestly can’t remember which one, it’s red in colour and just double sided, I think I bought it on eBay.

3M VHB 5952 Or 5956
Does anyone think ceramic coating before install is a bad idea? Or even just polishing before install?
Would blu-tack work?
Ok i have a question. What if i want to stick it down with something stronger than double sided tape, worried someone will steal it off ! Thinking some strong glue or something ? Don’t want to screw it as that’s crazy Any ideas ??? Great vid
@carlubetv
4 жыл бұрын
Stephen Swallow The thing is if someone wants to steal it they will do weather it’s glued on taped, at least with tape it won’t damage the boot, that’s my thoughts anyway. Some use Tiger seal but this will ruin the paint underneath. The tape is strong enough.
It's not for esthetic only. It applies down force on your car when you drive faster and it gives you better handling and stability at high speeds. I felt the difference after i installed mine.

Adrian Vacarescu You’re right, I remember how the early Audi TT MK1’s were reported as very unstable before they started fitting a very small lip spoiler
should it still wiggle some after applying adhesive tape or should there be no margin of movement after securing it?
@carlubetv
Жыл бұрын
No it shouldn’t wiggle mate, once it’s stuck it’s stuck, does take a good couple of hours for the tape to go off though.
Does this harm the original paint on the car once you apply the spoiler with the 3m tape? Like, can I take it of in a year or two and the car be ok?

Spoilers of any shape or size can be fitted to cars with tape, it’s often the way manufacturers fit them as standard.
I ordered my spoiler and so eager to do this. BUT How about the 3M tape? Your video guide should defo mention the exact type, width and thickness e.g. 10mm 0.8mm. Or 1.1mm thick. What tape NOT to use etc Don't want spoiler raised off the lip

Nazrul Hussain I think we used 10mm and 12mm 3m foam type from eBay , this stuff is very hard biting tape mate
What would you suggest to prep the paint first? Is alcohol enough? (Just ordered a Maxton spoiler for my MK& GTI)

In addition to surface prep, I used adhesion promoter on the surface. I live in Florida and the temperatures can get extremely hot! The 3M tape on a spoiler I installed that is similar to the video still has a very tight bond like day one!
Btw did u even degrease the boot before applying the spoiler? Also what 3m tape did u use here? 3m automotive molding tape? Pls a reply would help so much
@carlubetv

Yes the boot was degreased, any 3M grey double sided tape can be used 6mm for curved edges 10mm tape for the centre coverage.

Very good video, I just received by carbon fiber rear spoiler with the 3M tape for my Alfa Romeo Giulia, I still have to install it. My question is ...after installation will the 3M tape be sufficient to hold it down even after multiple car washes? Just worried that one day it will rip off while driving down the highway. Thank you

...if there are no ground effects then why bother putting a spoiler on a car? You're better off saving on the excess weight and applying "no fog" to the inside of your wind shield so it doesn't fog up as much.
