Anxiety and mental health are real in surgery and the operating room, and its big business for big pharma. But so many patients want to get off anxiety medications and want natural alternatives to potentially dangerous and addictive meds. So let’s talk anxiety medication secrets used by big pharma so you can more naturally control your anxiety.
Anxiety medications can be powerful in the right scenarios. I use them all the time in anesthesia for surgery. Instead, we’ll be talking about using anxiety medications on continual bases, or what’s called chronic anxiety medication use. Specifically, benzodiazepines, like Xanax, Ativan, Valium, and Klonopin. There are some situations when these anxiety meds can safely be used. However, they carry serious risks for addiction and dangerous sedation when combined with other medications, like opioids and alcohol. Furthermore, they don’t solve the underlying root cause of anxiety. These issues, and many others, make these medications problematic for chronic use.
Unfortunately, anxiety meds are so effective it makes finding alternatives difficult. I’ll share the tricks that make benzodiazepine anxiety medications so effective so that you can apply those same principles to finding natural, alternative anxiety relievers.
As always, learn more at www.MedicalSecretsMD.com
Remember, you have more power over your health than you’ve probably ever been told!

I've experienced severe anxiety along with Bipolar 1. I'd be home at all times without the low-dose diazepam I take. I still have anxiety but my doc can't increase my dose because of the state monitoring system. So I live with just the edge off the worst of it. But, my anxiety bothered my friends so much that they don't associate with me anymore. Some people do need anxiety meds.

Yes they do. When stupid comes out of your mouth or you start sweating because of how uncomfortable it is? That's bad anxiety. I'm sorry you're suffering. Stupid state monitoring system. Florida only gives psych drugs, unless you have money. If you have money and great insurance you can get whatever you need. Only the poor can not.

I agree with @Sheryl Doggett. There’s a huge difference between situational anxiety (public speaking, airplane travel, death in family, etc) and an anxiety disorder. I’ve been taking a benzodiazepine for nearly 20 years now. I was on Clonazepam for the longest time and it helped me tremendously. My body built up a tolerance to it and now I’m taking Valium. Same thing with my doctor. He’s afraid to increase the dose because of all the government restrictions.

Benzo withdraw is the absolute worst. I only took mine maybe 3-5 times a week (over years) & still had seizures coming off. Among other horrible symptoms. It takes so long to get out of your system once it's built up. The withdraw & seizures didn't start until around week 3. I was certain I would die. And this is coming from someone who has been thru opiate withdraw more times than I can count on both hands.11yrs free btw! ❤ Please even if you're taking as needed but for an extended amount of time. Make sure your under close medical supervision if you stop 🙏

I agree with you about trying all of these things, however, if they do not work, and you continuously end up, hurting yourself or others, and end up in mental institutions and medication’s, like Klonopin and paxil work very well for you to stop your panic, attacks your depression and your PTSD then I think it is quality of life and benefit over a risk. My quality of life would be terrible without my medication’s. I tried to go off of them a few times for months, and had to go to the hospital again, and again. Finally, the doctors agreed to keep me on the medicine. I know the risks and I wish they were not there and I wish there was something else that could help me but I know if I try to go off of my medicine again things will get really bad. I also think there are people that are very heavily medicated that really do not need to be thank you for bringing attention to all of this. In addition to my medication’s I also use essential oils, meditate, watch, ASMR videos, breathing exercises, of course, exercising if my health allows it

I've experienced very few things as hellish as a cold turkey benzo withdrawal. As Dr. Lembke at Stanford has mentioned (very heavily paraphrasing), when we self-medicate, the shorter term solutions to our problems (anxiety, depression etc) often become the long-term causes of those same problems - e.g., using benzos to alleviate acute anxiety will only greatly intensify anxiety in the long run.

I only take my medicine as needed and I have taken it so long I don’t think it could possibly make me feel any kind of “high” I don’t drink alcohol or take any other kind of medication. I feel like I’m doing good at least to just take it only as I need it. Some days I take my full doses and some days I can take less and so I do. But they seriously saved me when I needed them so as much as I like and agree people should go the natural route whenever possible, I feel like sometimes medicine is necessary for different reasons

Cold turkey from benzo left me with blood pressure to cause stroke or heart attack. Was in a 5 week long panic attack. I could barely move from my bed to go to the rest room. Wound up calling to go to psyche hospital. Had NO CHOICE. I fould hav3 dier. I was alone. My sister didn't even check on me while knowing what i was going through. Horrific & deadly. Don't fool around with ANY benzodiazepine withdrawal on you'r own. I was abandoned by a Dr., However. There was noone willing to help me. Not even the opioid sdoctors wanted to get involved. Seemed to scare them. Most are more concerned these days with getting sued & not if someone lives or dies. Opioid epidemic that noone wants to attach their medical license to. Sad world today. I studied psychology & biology in college & was invited to doctorate program in psyche & to Ross university in the Caribbean. I understand the hesitancy. It simply scares me. Thank you Anthony K. for caring. It means a great deal to me & so many others.

I can relate to your anxiety and how medication can help. When you watch Dr K's video's, tiktoks & Lives; he doesn't come across as people not using medication if needed. He talks a lot about educating ourselves on our conditions, such as understanding our anxiety & being informed of options. His tiktoks & videos have been very helpful for me understanding anxiety, panic attacks & how using breathing techniques can help reduce anxiety; breathing techniques as one more tool to use in managing anxiety. In his Lives he very much encourages people to talk to their doctors, etc about treatment options. You're so right about the need to understand ourselves & conditions makes a difference 😃.

I'm not claiming that Dr. Kaveh is against medication (he's an anesthesiologist, after all), but not everyone watching will have the full context of all his videos and tiktoks. I wouldn't want someone watching this to be dissuaded from turning to medication when that can transform--and even save--their life, and I'm sure Dr. Kaveh wouldn't want that either.

Hi Ore, thank you so much for your insights. You are 100% correct that medications can be truly life-saving and life changing, for the better, for many patients. It was actually my intention to discuss this in the video, but was accidentally cut at the last minute. However, it is always why I mention dose reduction, in addition to elimination, because sometimes complete elimination is not necessary. Thank you for pointing out that not everybody is familiar with the rest of my content, and may not appreciate my emphasis on INTEGRATION, rather than elimination, of medications in a holistic healing plan. I am so happy to hear that you have had such a positive experience in your health. By the way, you are absolutely correct that, as an anesthesiologist, I use numerous, potent medications to guide patients through surgery. If you are ever comfortable, I would love to hear your story. I think many patients would benefit from your personal experience.

The very next day I had a withdrawal seizure and blacked out woke up in the ER with a handsome paramedic looming over me. He checked everything picked up a slight heart murmur, did lots of blood tests and sent me to a haematologist, he did tests including lumbar puncture to rule out all cancers then referred me to a rheumatologist who took more bloods and diagnosed lupus (only 3mths!). Look up side effects of Buspirone. My client is finally off of it. I doubt she'll ever take that again. In her case she does not need any side effects like these: nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting. Not all drugs have these as possible side effects, but many of hers had or have. All drugs have side effects and so do some "natural" remedies. Nutrients have side benefits. What nutrient deficiencies do you have? BTW, sugar is not a food; not a nutrient. It depletes B vitamins, which are needed for nerve health.

I'm always curious as to what else someone like you has tried. The body is such a complex system; often its not one deficiency or one additional drug or supplement or habit that it needs. This is true when it comes to healing. So here's a list, not exhaustive I'm sure, of what comes to my mind. First eliminate allergens and toxins; includes sugar, grains, bad oils, ie, so called vegetable oils. These interfere with uptake of many nutrients. Consider a carnovoire elimination diet (see Mikhaila Peterson). See Dr Roger Seheult on light as medicine and the sleep remedies/issues he discusses. See the Earthing channel's films on grounding. See demonstration of bag breathing; many other videos cover the science including one by Ray Peat. The carnovoire diet includes healthy fats; in plants this would include some nuts and avocados. Nutrients like D3 and K2 and others, require fat; they are fat soluable. Most people need more D3 as a supplement than they think. Dr Seheult takes 5,000 units daily and he lives in southern California. Because of my heath needs, I took 20,000 units (with K2; that's important) daily for a year. I have for the last 4 years taken 1 capsule daily which is 10,000 units. We need more iodine than we used to. See Dr Ken Berry interview Dr Brownstein. Trace minerals are important too. We need a good B complex formula. Unless your levels are being monitored, shouldn't take out of balance Bs; the body will kick them out. They are destroyed high heat and over cooking. We need magnesium supplement. Dr Carolyn Dean has videos on that. Moderate exercise, like walking, is beneficial for our system. Fermented foods are beneficial; more than pre and pro biotic for the gut. A lot of people are reporting they began and continue, to sleep well through the night, after they started using castor oil liver packs. If you drink alcohol, stop that. It is not a health product. Don't spend so much time on electronic devises. I think I heard (Diary of a CEO) for every 2 hours on computer, take a 2 minute break, to look at a Vista 20 feet away (you can search this). Here's really hard one: get more hugs. You can find this on youtube, I'm sure. I don't think anyone gets enough. We need music, community, laughter. Find things that make you laugh really hard! (Helps your immune system.) Watch out for what Dr Daniel Amens calls"ANTS:" automatic negative thoughts. "... whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Philippians 4:8. I wish all the best of health. I have a client who was diagnosed last year with Parkinson's; her home visit doctor does not think this is actually Parkinson's, but Parkinson's like symptoms caused by being on prescription drugs for many years. All she has, and there's been a lot, comes down to metabolic health issues .

I lived next to a meth factory for 10 years. I used to take a Benadryl or two to try and sleep while they were up all night. When the nurse asked about medications at my yearly appointment and I told her, she had a bloody fit and told me it was terrible to do this and the Benadryl would fail to work if I needed it for a medical emergency. The doctor then prescribed Valium and I would take 1/2 per night. I no longer see that doctor and am back to the Benadryl. Thoughts on this? I have a new neighbor that leaves for work in the middle of the night and I just can't get back to sleep after he leaves.

Have been very ill for four months with anxiety - every day except for a two-week period. Was on a Benzo for 22 years. One day the doctor said we don't do the bentos any more. I had absolutely no problem with withdrawal. It was not addictive. Now, I'm too ill to go out. I can't function. I am seriously ill, but the doctors say the benzo''s not good for me. I ended up in the ER with a panic attack. Guess what they slipped me to get me stable enough to go home - a Xanax. That's right the Benzo they all think is so bad for you. If these doctors felt like I am feeling they wouldn't try to ban the benzos. They prescribed an anti-histamine during the day (makes you sleep) and an antidepressant (which my previous doctors prescribed as a sleeping pill.) for nighttime. So the drs. solution is to make you sleep day and night, unable to function, unable to work, unable to go grocery shopping, not to mention not be with friends or family. So sorry, not buying this.

The treatment I need is to avoid stressors but I literally can't :( and seeing as my anxiety has evolved to chronic paranoia I think a good crutch to weather the worst of it is needed. If the oral supplements wouldn't work for me then I just need the meds for the 2-4 weeks that they help with some gaps between. I'm allergic to Lavender which is the most affective essential oil for anxiety. Just techniques and behavioral adjustment that I am often too emotionally keyed up to employ in my worst moments isn't really enough. Music helps but hasn't fixed anything. I can only think the only option is herbal medication or actual medication until I feel like I can allow myself to make lifestyle changes I really need to without having anxiety about the fallout instead

I'm not a doctor. I have a client who has had just about everything including "POTS." Can be an issue of blood not moving fast enough when you stand. My client seems better in this regard, but not sure what made the difference. I encourage her to keep insulin levels low and get enough protein and good fats. Really, her system is so complicated. She's on about 20 prescriptions plus supplements (doctor prescribes omega 3, iron, potassium). I'm convinced she had issues with the Vagus nerve, which is directly connected to stomach. She's had days when she couldn't keep any food down. She stopped statins and felt better in 24 hours. Against my advice, she tried going off of a very addictive med and had horrible withdrawal symptoms. She has 23 stents! When we have experiences like many of you, yes you should see a doctor, but please hear doctors and health care professionals on youtube. Don't just accept that you can only benefit from prescription drugs. I just learned this week that DMSO is not just an efficient carrier; it is a pain reliver without side effects! Used in many medications, but not promoted for use by itself. There's a nice short book about it on amazon. Not recommended for those on prescription drugs; it's a diuretic! So one has to be educated about these other things which can be useful but may have contraindications. We are in a health care revolution. If you've heard Drs Pradip Jamnadas, Ken Berry, Thomas Seyfried or Dr Mary Newport or found Andreas Kalcker (CDS) and Mikhaila Peterson, you've seen this.

Without it, I feel like a Zombie. With it, I need anxiety or sleep meds at night. I feel the benzo has affectwd my memory, plus the Nuvigil is called a "smart drug" but it makes me dumb sometimes. I can not concentrate. It makes me alive and motivated. Without I have no lie. I switched from gabapentin to Nuvigil. Gabapentin in higher doses made my body hurt worse (given by rheumotologist). Nuvigil makes my joints hurt as well when it wears off. Gabapentin motivated me but made me fuzzy as well. I feel like Nuvigil has given me a life again, but it may be taking my life as well with side effects. Your opinion on Nuvigil (armodafinil) and also gabapentin please. But I will need a low dose, half a milligram, couple times a week on average dose of Alprazolam to sleep. I haven’t experienced any side effects or dependency issues after years of doing this and without access to this medication I would really be suffering and struggling. I think its about finding the right balance, people vary greatly in how they respond to drugs. Some are much more or less prone to addiction or abuse.

Type 1 diabetics have a different problem from Type 2. See Eric Berg and or Dr Ken Berry explain this. Type 1 does not have enough insulin; Type 2 has too much insulin, and their cells have slammed their doors shut to prevent any more insulin from coming into the cells. Not sure that helps explain, in regard to your question, but the two types are quite different. Dr Berry along with 5 colleagues recently filed for 501C for a new diabetic group, The American Diabetes Society. Frankly, The American Diabetic Association has done a lot of harm with the misinformation they continue to dispense.
