Anurag Kashyap’s Tell-All Interview About His Past And His Career | With Nawazuddin Siddiqui
Ойын-сауық
Anurag Kashyap’s and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s thought provoking interview on life, sexuality, cinema and politics with Shoma Chaudhury at Algebra, The Arts and Ideas Club on 1st October 2016.
Anurag Kashyap reveals a haunting past and how it has come to define him and his work. His films, considered thematically inappropriate by the CBFC, bring topics otherwise brushed under the carpets in the forefront. His work exemplifies what it is like to swim against the current.
On his tiff with the Censor Board, Kashyap says he would consider making films in regional languages or in Hollywood and that there is no in-between for him anymore.
About his films making people uncomfortable, he says, “..it’s very important to make people feel uncomfortable because the truth is uncomfortable.”
With Nawazuddin Siddiqui joining in, the two recount how they first met and how working together so far has been.

Algebra takes the idea of a club - a universe of the likeminded - and expands it to new paradigms. The key idea behind Algebra is to bring together a fellowship of people who believe great cities are built not just on infrastructure but a life of the mind; who understand robust and liberal societies need the oxygen of great conversation and nuanced thinking. At a time when we are increasingly surrounded by rage and noise, Algebra is that unique live and continuous space where people could go for a genuine exchange of ideas and exposure to issues; where new seeds could be sparked, fresh perspectives formed, and intelligent connections made.
Algebra - the Arts and Ideas Club is designed to host over 60 conversations over the year with topline thinkers and practitioners from almost every discipline that impacts human affairs: politics, economy, environment, spirituality, cinema, medicine, science, technology, music, media, literature, the arts, sports, people’s movements, et al. In a line, Algebra is a space where one can meet an exciting, cutting-edge spectrum of people shaping the world in different ways. Where one can test one’s ideas, challenge one’s perspectives, and build friendships. A sort of fellowship of the curious and engaged.

Anurag was abused 😢😢.... was lonely. .... this made me so sad
I have never heard an honest interview like Anurag just gave. His solid stand on Pahlaj Nihalani publicly speaks volumes about his self-belief. Glad to witness work from such a person. Also loved the humbleness of Nawaz. Loved the interview on the whole! Thanks to the host and ALGEBRA for bringing this less fanfare and simple interview.

Anurag Kashyap is one of the best filmmakers in the history of cinema ! You just have to see Black Friday to believe it . After that of you look at his constraints you feel he is some kind of Superman ! HATS OFF !

Yess sir totally agreed with you !!!! Cinema is bout innovation and improvising......... these guys is doing it really well !!! .......Anurag kashyap , nawazuddin siddiqui, Late Irrfan khan , pankaj tripathi , manoj bajpai , vikramaditya motwane and so on .......
Rajkumar hirani is a great director no doubt! But I just wish Anurag made Sanju biopic...it would have been more meaty and realistic!

Rajkumar Hirani doesn't have the vision of Anurag, Anurag's films are higher, as a director Rajkumar might be equally good but his films are not comparable to the films of Anurag.

Down to earth, still, after all the stardom. Nawaz is a gem.
Anurag sir should make movies for netflix or hbo, they'll get it and pay for it. soon the Indian market will follow.

Anurag Kashyap is a gem kind of a director which bollywood has rarely produced !! He is one of the practical director who attracts me to watch with respect a bollywood film or a Hindi Netflix series.
Hats off to you Shoma, Anurag and Nawazuddin. It was a privilege watch this interaction.
So Courageous ! @AnuragKashyap "We have to put the truth out there , to make them uncomfortable and think over it. "
I am so thankful to Anurag kashyap for believing to speak-up. I heard my soul talking out. I mean same dilemmas same judgements and same questions that why are people afraid of talking simple truth also, forget about dark-truths of life. Why does public general view point so imp and eventually you start believing that something is wrong with-in you only. And when celebrity like Anurag voice out its magic for the society! truly! ma immediate feeling was feeling so light, so relatable. More power to truth and being your own real self.
When Anurag said he disappeared into a world of comic books between the covers of his bed, his safe space as such, it struck a chord with me. I used to disappear behind the couch in the sitting room and lean against the radiator reading books and would hide there for ages in a world of my own. I was a dreamer too, I would lose myself in day dreams a lot... This was many many years ago... and now, just a few months ago, in November 2019 I put the man who had sexually abused me in prison. I absolutely applaud him for his honesty when disclosing how through anger he almost became that same abuser himself as a teenager. That is incredibly brave, unbelievably brave. I have seen some of his movies and they are rare in that they expose some of the most uncomfortable and soul destroying topics that perhaps other directors don't want to touch... not for gratuitous attention but to make us think, to make us address the darkness we hide in ourselves and the pain we bury that only festers and explodes unless we eventually face what is tearing us apart. I never knew these things about Anurag so many thanks to the uploader for sharing this with us.
Ripe of this interviw was d last 2 mins where Anurag tells about what bothers him today... "Intellectuals are intolerent of stupidity" v deep thought... I wish i was just a % of Anurag's honest intellect... I hope v understand d dilema n frustration of such people!!
This is one of the best interviews i have ever seen; when Nawaz was talking about his past and how he was overlooked i felt like crying.
i wish i can listen to this guy whole day
extra ordinary!!! loved every single part of it. very insightful. i'm impressed with these two gentlemen.
there is so much to learn from this interview of Anurag Kashyap and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, about there life and about there journey from nothing to what they are today. These lessons you will never get from any so called "inspirational video" out there.
Best actor i ever seen. Nawaz. I don't know is he a acting star or not. But he's god of acting ❤🇧🇩
Such a truth, both humans are the best thing ever happened to Bollywood
This definitely is one of the honest interview.
I dare Shome Chaudhury to find the courage to invite Arunahati Roy & Jharana Jhaveri who 1st met on 9th Aug 1997. Just around the time one had written End Of Imagination n the other had screened the game-changing documentary "Kaise Jeebo Re' to the Indian (doped) Media which U r a part of (Still) in 1997. Since then these two women have master-minded so many revolutions worldwide... U would need a huge n very clever team to know even 10% of the work they have done so far. Go for it before one of them is bumped off.
Loved 'No Smoking' and have seen it a couple of times.
The best part of this video and well said Anurag is @ 37:40
Anurag my favourite director can't believe that he is so bold love you so much from pakistan❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing this!
He tried his own luck... having said that the nepotism that prevails in Bollywood is open secret it’s like u invest money on something u want it to give return ... its a business but great respect to this fellow , like he said no one owes to u owes it to yourself .. it’s easier said then done
Anurag is so intelligent he's way way better then Bollywood other director and a good human being

I want a film to be made on Anurag's life. and I want Anurag to to direct it because no one else can do justice to it.
Nawaz best role was in Kahani. He ate them all. Watch that movie.
WONDERFUL, ANURAG JEE YOU ARE ONE PERSON WHO HAS GUTS TO SPEAK AS IT IS... Indians are especially political shrines are so intolerant, biggest hypocrites are found in our Beautiful country....
even tho i don't agree with anurag on everything, hats off to him for his courage.

Love Anu sir and nawaj Bhai for their work that is extraordinary
Of course nawaz g is very very good looking. Since in foreign countries focus more on features than color we all realized quickly how good looking he is apart from how talented he is. Lots of love to nawaz also to Anurag from UK n Nepal
The best thing about this video is the opening piece 🔥🔥🔥🔥 And Anurag of course ✌️
Two of the best talents of indian cinema.

OMG! The trauma he must have faced and still facing because of the abuse. Please talk!
Nawaz forgot to mention the role that was given by Kamal Haasan Sir to him in year 1999 in Cult Classic movie Hey Ram which was definitely more than one scene.. Unfortunately due to length of the movie, Nawaaz's role was edited out of the final edit, however it doesnt change the fact that very early on Kamal Haasan Sir was able to identify the talent in him.. Kamal Haasan Sir also offered the Nawaz to be Hindi Dialog Coach of another cult Classic movie Abhay in the year 2000..

I get it that her Hindi is not good. Why speak in an artificial Hindi accent to show that you have more command over English. It's like she is glorifying that she is using Hindi.
since I have suffered with child abuse so I know how a sexual assaulted person feels
