This is another EP of mine titled 'Bloom'. I've been working on this EP for a little over a year now. It seems like a really long time for five songs, and IT IS a really long time for five songs. Trying to balance my touring schedule while making drum videos and writing music on the side is very difficult. This is part of the reason why it took me so long to write another EP. None the less, I absolutely love writing and producing music, and its something I'll always find the time do.
'Bloom' will be available on March 2nd, and it will be available on iTunes as well as other similar medias. It'll also be available on my Bandcamp page (link below) for free.
I wrote, recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered everything on this EP. As usual, the guitars and bass are 'programmed'. I say 'programmed', but really, the guitars and bass are a product of heavy editing. I record each note at a time, and I arrange these audio samples to form riffs and progressions. Over the years, I've started to play some of the simpler sections on guitar. However, Im still heavily editing these areas, and its still not enough to call my self an actual guitar player. I've also given up on trying to make my guitars sound real. The only way to get a guitar to sound real is to play it. I've embraced the editing freedom I have with my style of music, and I now write with absolutely no intention of the guitars being recreated in a live setting by an actual guitar player.
I want to mention that a couple of the songs are actually extensions of past work I've done. Im all about having an idea or story in mind, and writing to this idea or story. I feel like Im able to tap into a much more emotional side of me. So I love continuing ideas from the past, and just evolving them and making them different in some ways. 'Memoirs' is a good example. 'Memoirs' is supposed to be an extension of both 'Titan' and 'Pariah', two songs off of my last EP.
I want to thank Heather McEndree, Elisabeth Turchi, and the Wilson College Choir for working with me on one of my songs titled 'Bloom'. I had a lead melody that I wanted to layer over top of the middle chorus section, and I wanted to use a unique sound to do so. Originally, I was planning on using a clean guitar sound and maybe a piano (plugin) of some sort, but I wanted to see if I could branch out a bit. Mrs. McEndree was my band director in middle school. She let me switch from playing the clarinet to playing the drums in the 7th grade. I contacted her to see if she had any access to a choir, and she put me in touch with Elisabeth Turchi, who is the choir director at Wilson College. Its a very short section that the choir is a part of, but I think it made a huge difference.
Another fun fact, I actually sampled a bunch of street drummers for that percussive layer that opens up in the beginning of 'Bloom'. I used this through out the song, and I also used it in other areas of the EP.
I want to thank Jordan Salmon for the beautiful artwork AGAIN! He's done all of my artwork for all of my releases so far, and I think he kills it every time. He's an amazing person to work with as well. I've posted a link below to his Facebook page.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone who has supported all of my musical endeavors. I really wouldn't be able to do much if it weren't for the support I get from everyone who follows or shares my music. It really does mean a lot to me, and its part of the reason why I love doing what I do. So thank you!
Enjoy! :)
