Antz is kinda like the common folks cry out but it’s the reason why we have this gusto to want to take down the leaders now! A lot of things we watched growing up had messages like “power in numbers” and “treat everyone equally” and older generations wonder why we want to change things

Lol I swear, if you do anything remotely supporting the idea of a fair society that benefits the working class, then America is like, is this Communism? And it’s worked because so many other middle class citizens grew up with that sort of mentality after being told anything unlike us is communism. In a funny way though, Antz still got that message across, because the younger generation is willing to embrace SOME of this movie’s ideals.

I agree, I remember Antz almost entirely and I liked that movie a lot. Maybe because I watched it as a teen, and that movie must be pretty confusing for Lil kids The most memorable thing to me from Bug's life are the bird machine and the childish carterpillar turning into a butterfly. I actually have something ingrained in my memories about that movie more than the movie itself, which is a 90’s magazine about computer graphics and modeling and that movie was on the cover and it had a spread story about it because it was the year the movie came out ('98) ,

As an adult, I appreciate ANTZ far more than A Bug’s Life. It’s gritty, dark, humorous, and engaging. The stakes feel higher in ANTZ than they do in A Bug’s Life. As for ANTZ’s appearance, I think the ugly character design and dull colors were intentional. I think they wanted to reflect the dull, tedious, and uninspired aspects of Capitalism and working under the pressure of corporations. A Bug’s Life’s appearance is objectively better. It’s vibrant, stylized, and fun. However, it doesn’t feel as thematic to the story as ANTZ’s animation is. Character wise, I think Z’s arc was more compelling than Flik’s. Z started off as a selfish, impulsive, and depressive worker ant, who felt worthless and secluded in a collectivist society. Flik on the other hand, was treated like shit in his own colony, but he still had admirable traits. He was smart, adventurous, and caring. His character wasn’t as dynamic as Z’s character. Z was flawed from the get-go. But as the story progressed, Z began realizing the importance of self worth, caring for others, and outwardly questioning authority. As for the story, I thought ANTZ was far more interesting. The stakes felt real and it occasionally took unpredictable turns. A Bug’s Life felt flat. The stakes were non-existent and the story felt pretty predictable. My thumbs are getting tired and I can spend so much time talking about why ANTZ is better but I’ll keep it brief. ANTZ > A Bug’s Life

@@Noodlemonkey7 Bullshit, Eisner brought very good things to Disney, such as the partnership with George Lucas and Lucasfilm, to create Star Tours, Indiana Jones Adventure, etc. Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom opened under him. He helped bring in the Disney animated Renaissance, with movies like Aladdin, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Hercules, and Beauty and The Beast. He brought Disney to broadway with Beauty and The Beast and The Lion King. The Disney Store was created under him. Oh yeah, Eisner also helped with the ABC deal, ( Disney Bought ABC ) which doubled the size of the company. Yes, he fell short with California Adventure and EuroDisney, but EuroDisney wasn’t entirely his fault. (California Adventure was though) I’ve been to both in the past 3 years, and they are both very enjoyable nowadays. You think Eisner was bad? Look at Chapek. Now we’re getting cutbacks, price raises, and food portion shrinking at the parks.

Each film has their own charm in a way. A huge difference between the stories is where the threat it coming from and how they are handled. In Antz the conflict of the colony is all within. Our hero who felt depressed and worthless learns to find happiness in caring for others, find out about the corruption, and unite the workers who were condemned to death to literally rise from their fate, thus inspiring the villain's right hand and own soldiers to continue the rescue. The colony saved itself from a coup thanks to one who seemed insignificant. This leads to the colony into a reformation. In Bugs Life the problem was external. A gang is forcing the colony to collect food in exchange for 'protection'. Like a mafia. (The grasshoppers even rev up their wings like motorcycles.) Since there doesn't seem to be a police force in that world our hero has to seek help from outside the home colony. Despite the misunderstanding of the 'hero bugs' they still arrange a plan to get rid of the grasshoppers by using trickery. Wits over force. Eventually the colony unites to get rid of the oppressors, gaining liberty. When dealing with a difficult situation you can either handle the problem yourself or ask for help. That seems to be the big takeaway i found from these films.

I really like both of the movies. Each movie has its own strenghts and weaknesses. And I think it is not possible to make a movie about sentient ants (or bees) without giving at least a little commentary to this whole "working class stuff" - that is just the way of the hive I think ^^ I liked the more realistic look on ant worldbuilding in Antz, I mean the queen is literally birthing all the baby ants and they are devided into soldiers and workers based on physicality. And the joke with the lice juice - Ants are doing that in real life. I like the dark stuff in the movie. In A Bug's life the queen is more of a cartoon queen that is doing not really anything the whole day. Flick is an inventor instead of doing a worker ants stuff the whole day - so the feeling of the film is more open, light and cartoony. I like the colorful visuals and the circus crew, even if they are just puns, I like puns ^^

Both are good, but I love Antz because I love how it was darker dealing with the concept of conformity and very reminiscent of Orwell’s 1984. While it does lack subtlety in expressing the idea, I do like how they weren’t afraid to discuss darker topics for a kids film.

You see, out of all their run, Dreamworks seemed to intend to actually counter Disney and Pixar by making animated movies that were actually for adults. They were "safe" for kids, but Katzenberg's mockbuster idea seemed to have a method to the madness. Why bother making a similar film for the same audience when you can make a similar film for a different audience? That way everyone kinda wins. Which is why we all have our preference out of the two but nobody seems to *hate* either. Then Shrek happened, made megabucks, and Katzenberg took the wrong lessons from it and pummelled Shrek and Dreamworks into the ground. There's no discourse about Finding Nemo and Shark Tale and how we all like both but have our preference. I think we universally hate Shark Tale. Fuck, even I hated it when I saw it at 13 because I felt so insulted by it.

I think both have strong resonance for different reasons. My first and favorite was Antz. I felt like I could relate to the existential dread of Z's feelings and his desire to leave the machine he was a cog in. However once I found Bug's Life and saw it I found it to be sort of a reverse of the ideals of Antz. Where Antz was the story of a man who wanted to be his own amongst the crowd of the same, Bug's Life was about an out there guy who wanted to join the group while being himself.

I think Bug's life is considered better because most people saw it as children and nostalgia makes that more of an impact. Also, the deal with these popular popcorn flicks of today is that they are visually beautiful but the story lacks depth. Bug's life is a great example of that when compared to Antz. I won't lie, I've seen Bug's life more times than Antz as a child, but I've learned to appreciate Antz more as I grew up. The thing that didn't work for Antz I think is that it was marketed as a movie for children. It would have been better to say that it is recommended above the age of 12.

I always saw Antz and Bugs Life as two halves of the same philosophical coin and although i visually enjoyed both as a child, Bugs life was the one that was easier to digest as a child at a time when the more complex plot of Antz was still a bit beyond my reach, then later in life I, like many outgrew Bugs Life (but still fondly enjoyed the nostalgia) and the once obscure points of Antz began to resonate in a similar manor as a teen and adult

I like Antz for a lot of the reasons people don't. I think the film sticks with me more because its unique. The fact its essentially a woody Allen movie but animated to me gives the film a unique twist. The art style is strange, but that's what makes it more memorable and distinct. A lot of the aspects of a Bugs Life feel a lot more generic to me. I can also appreciate how we get much more world building in Antz than in a bugs life. Things feel real and tangible. We see the inner workings of the colony, where as a lot of those aspects feel glossed over in a bugs life. As an adult, the jokes in antz are funnier to me. The characters in a bugs life are fun, but the characters in antz are flawed and complex than they are in a bugs life. I will give a bugs life this: It has a much better villain. I can also appreciate how much darker Antz gets. We see a freaking severed ants head in that movie, man. Both are good films though. In a way I think both reflect the creative visions of their studios. Pixar's a lot safer and has a broader appeal, whereas Dreamworks can go a bit darker and more adult.

I personally remember the Antz movie a lot more than A Bug’s Life due to the more mature themes. Idk man I’ll never forget that scene where a bunch of ants got slaughtered in that war … I was five… 💀

We saw part of Antz in theatres; pretty sure my parents meant to take us to Bugs life because…holy crap Antz was intense for the under 8 crowd. 😂

I only saw Antz once as a kid, so I can't remember it as clearly as A Bug's Life, which I saw more than once. But I haven't seen that one in years, either. So there's only one way to settle this! Make a crossover movie where the two different ant colonies/species fight to the death! Like the Antz battle scene, but even more of that, and with familiar Bug's Life characters being eviscerated. _That's_ the movie I want to see! (I swear there's nothing wrong with me. I just hate ants.)

I have always wondered this... i kept looking at bugs life and it’s similarity to a story called The Grasshopper And The Ant. In short at least from my memory, the grasshopper and the ant is about a group of ants that worked hard to store food for the winter, while a grasshopper goofed off, at the end the ants got food while the grasshopper did not. It was essentially a story that was trying to teach kids the importance of hard work as well as planning for the future. Both A Bug’s Life and this fable have ants that work hard and grasshoppers that goof off. Although I’m wondering if Pixar was inspired, or made a twist on the story. Because unlike the fable, there is more then one grasshopper and the ants are essentially enslaved by them, and forced to do all of the work, so that the grasshoppers don’t have to lift a leg to get what they want, which is food.

I loved Antz for the visuals and the fact that, as a kid, it completely caught me off guard whenever they cussed... And don't get me started on the brutality of the Acid War and one of the most depressing death scenes in all of C.G. Animation history... Antz did NOT feel like a kids movie, and that's what hooked me... I always felt like such a badass whenever I'd watch it or show it to a friend for the first time lol But objectively A Bugs Life is still the superior film as a whole, especially factoring in the intended audience; it felt like a family movie and did exactly what it set out to do...Kind of Pixar's thing... ****Also!!!!!! --- THE FUCKING OLD MAN WHO TROLLS THE HELL OUT OF HIMSELF IN CHESS!!!!!!! The best thing Pixar has ever FREAKING DONE EVER!!!! Fucking CLASSIC!! 😂😂😂

As a kid I loved both but preferred a bug's life because of the fun visuals and characters. But, as an adult, Antz resonates a lot more.

Antz was one of my most favorite movies as a young child, so much so I kinda got emotional while watching this video. I saw Antz at least 10+ times in my youth and I still ended up a hardcore Libertarian. Woops. Oh well 😂 Still a great movie 🔥🔥🔥
