Antony's transcendant vibrato interpretation is so full of emotion that you can feel the hopeful prayer for grace that Cohen surely intended when he wrote this modern-day Psalm. Cohen as a Psalmist and Antony as a performer is a killer duo. Kudos.

Leonard said, "there's a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in..." Antony is a very broken vessel and it is through those cracks we see his light. I can't imagine how much pain you have to have had to have written this song and then to have so completely understood it to perfectly sing it. If this is the passion God inspires through suffering, it is indeed necessary for the human condition to suffer for such beauty. Rest in God Leonard and God Bless Antony in all his little pieces.

So...I guess I saw this ten years ago, when I watched the doc, as I've been a fan of Cohen's since forever. I must admit: as soon as I saw him walk out on stage, I judged this man: how he was dressed, his dyed hair, the fact that he was chubby; I thought they must have pulled this guy out of a subway station or something, and that this was all going to go horribly awry; that someone had made a mistake. Then he started to sing. I was so moved by his interpretation of this song, and, upon seeing it, realized how easily I judge people by their appearance. Thank you, Antony. You changed a guy who thought he was always respectful, and always open to another's lifestyle, but is just as prone as the most cold-hearted, cynical bigot to schematize and judge another. Such a great performance, such a great voice, such a great talent, and they come from all over. It takes all kinds; that's what it takes.

John Korsmo I didn't have the exact same thought that you did, because I heard his (at the time she was known as Antony and used male pronouns) voice before I saw any pictures, but when I finally did see pictures I thought someone was playing around with me. How sadly was I mistaken. I have been just in love ever since. I would love to see her live. That has to be an amazing show.

John Korsmo I saw this clip in a trailer for the movie and having this stuck in my head was why i ordered it on Amazon and became an LC fan, but I've noticed, as I've shared this version, that if I ask people to listen, but not watch, they usually dig it, but if they watch then they tend to have a hard time with it ... I started doing this after the first time i watched it with a girlfriend and she didn't like it at all, and i thought it had to be the visuals, because it's an amazing rendition ... we eventually broke up, but that's because she turned into a raging alcoholic

I don't think it's a case of being awkward, I think it's being lost in the music and the feelings. Perhaps at times he catches himself and feels a little self-conscious but of course this is before he became a she and was perhaps feeling awkward in their skin anyhow. What ever it is the result is awesome! I think it only adds to the performance to see how much Anthony was feeling the music. I agree music should not be about how the performer moves to their creations. Music is about the sound, the feels not the sight! All the best performers get lost in their music somehow. Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Etta James. And the Portishead concerts my god her vulnerable and humble nature really, really works! Self inflated performers who only care about their dance look will only give that off on stage Fun to watch a stage performance too though.

How lucky were to see Mr Leonard Cohen in Australia many years ago. Our little girl was only 4 and had, for some reason fallen in love with Mr Cohens song “Everybody Knows”... took her to the concert ...she had her dad write a letter to Mr. Cohen...I may be your youngest fan. And drew a flower garden for you. He was such a gracious man, bent down and received it from her little hands. Needless to say she was ecstatic and the crowd was on their feet. That was our girl...never a fear. And for Leonard Cohen to have accepted it had me crying for days. I wonder what ever happened to that beautiful letter from a 4 year old. An amazing man.... An amazing songwriter.. And author. So glad the Wainwright’s brought some of his music for us to enjoy in another generation. “I’m Your Man”.. Classic DVD...

This song, with Leonard's beautiful words and Anohni's ethereal voice, is my favorite prayer. It is the only thing that calms me and gives me hope when I am in anguish about all the suffering in the world. I find her voice so healing to my spirit. "Let your mercy spill on all these burning hearts in hell." Wow, Leonard! I sing this song (in my head, you wouldn't want me to sing out loud!) to those who are suffering whenever I hear of another new tragedy, hoping that its healing power goes out like a balm to the world.

When it comes to physical stuff like pregnancy, sports or sex, then it matters. But most of the time we are not engaged in those, so it's more about how you feel throughout; feminine or masculine and which you want to portray. Most people are somewhere in between.

@@catarinacouto2501 Antony is male, born a boy. Antony Hegarty. Now known as her "Spirit name" Anonhi. Very beautiful isn't it? 😊 She says her sexuality was never emphatically "I want to be a girl" but much more subtle, and that growing up "he"was too afraid to ask to be known as "she." She has not had gender reassignment surgery or anything, and never will. Anonhi just identifies more as female and is much happier now. I love her dearly and that voice! Sublime 💖. Also stunningly intelligent. If you read the interview she gave with The Guardian in London, you will understand. (I'm sure you already know all of this Catarina, it's just for the benefit of folk who wish to know more about her 😉). It's rather confusing as in this heart rendering performance for Leonard, she is still known as Antony 🤔😀!!! I think Leonard would love this fine rendition of his song, yes? Kudos to you for bringing it up. Peace and Light 🌟 Rest well Leonard. You are sorely missed. Up there in Heaven singing with the most sensational band ever... x
