ANTONOV AN-22 - The BIGGEST PROPELLER PLANE in the world - Landing and Departure (4K)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After 15 years I finally managed to film the biggest propeller plane in the world - the Antonov AN-22. I am always looking for special, original and rare planes and the Antonov 22 is for sure one of the most unique airplanes I have ever seen. UR-09307 is the only civilian Antonov 22 worldwide and it was broken for almost seven years. Last year it returned to the skies but it was still very hard for me to film it. It showed up at Leipzig a few times but it` s not easy to film at Leipzig and I have to drive five hours to get here.
I filmed this Antonov last friday at Oostende (Belgium). Had to drive four hours to get there but it was definitly worth it. You never know when you get the chance to film it again and the video opportunities at Oostende are perfect. The only negative aspect about Oostende is that I have to drive through Antwerpen to get there. Men, that Autobahn ring is a catastrophy. I am always stuck in a traffic jam over there :D ... .
I hope you liked this unique Antonov video and see you next time.

I had not realized that the wheel fairings were so long and large - until I saw this video. The AN-22 has been eclipsed by the AN-124 and AN-225 in the public mind, but I think that's a mistake. This is a huge, very very impressive aircraft. We don't have a direct equivalent here in the west. It just goes to show, if it's a big big big airplane Antonov probably built it. Nice!

2:50 look closely at the wingtips. Look at them shake. Up and down and back and forth. For those of you who havent experienced it, an aircraft that is sitting on the ground, with engines running at full power, but with brakes on, _Shakes. Like. _*_Mad._* Those engines are roaring at full muscle, _yanking_ at that airframe with their combined *30,000 shaft horsepower.* They are *screaming* at you to let go of those brakes so the plane can race down that runway and do what it was destined to do. This monster must have been throwing its pilots around like a jumping air suspension car. And yes. I romanticize and dramaticize stuff like this. And i am unashamed of it. Because i love airplanes. I think they are one of the best things to ever happen to the human race, and i am proud beyond words to work on them.

Good Job ! Remember one coming to Farnborough when I was a teenager , very graceful for such a large (Then !) aircraft , very impressive , a gentle touch by the pilot on landing and takeoff ,

Around 10. One in Ukraine, the rest - in Russia. And it uses same engines and propellers as Tu-95. Same crazy loud turboprop sound. Seen it start up, taxi and fly up close, from around 100-200 meters.

The Mighty Kuznetsov NK-12 is the most powerfull turboprop engine ever built. 14 stage compressor (14 fans that move, 14 that are stationary) with a 13:1 compression ratio. 5 wheel power turbine section. 15,000 shaft horsepower. designed from the starr to be cranked into a contra-rotating prop gearbox with *14 foot diameter* constant speed propellers. And the engines spin them fast enough that the tips go supersonic. Which is where most of their infamous noise comes from. And 4 of those beasts power the An-22.
