+Julie M It is not uncommon for musicians in an orchestra to applause by stomping instead of clapping. It is very difficult to clap ones hands when holding a Violin and a bow (or any other instrument). I have seen this a lot at the Australian Opera where the musicians of the orchestra start stomping their feet at the arrival of the conductor and at the end of an act.
