I like how at 10:40 the music stops but Antonio carries on conducting anyway

есть ли нормальный ролик этого дирижера именно с симфоническим оркестром, где он дирижирует...хотя бы фрагмент...по интервью трудно судить, как играет у него оркестр

The pianist is also an assistant conductor at the Royal Opera. Be looking for him in the pits of major companies in a couple years.

that's superb. I just got a ticket for Jan 4th @ £9.00 (standing...!!) but: would you and "could you" listen to Wagner conducted by Pappano while sitting??

Die Deutschen werden der Welt wohl für immer unbegreiflich bleiben.Einerseits haben sie die Völker mehrmals in Blut und Tränen gestürzt.Andererseits so großartige Musik geschaffen die jedem ans Herz gehen muß.

Why is he conducting at all?

As a professional conductor, this video is embarrassing to watch. Pappano conducts turned away from the pianist. The only reason for this must be to show off to the audience in a fake effort to seem profound.

@@eugenetzigane I mean it is his lecture. He's trying to convey the feeling of the music and engage the audience and I think he does that rather well.

@@peacesellsstevebuyin You are absolutely right that he's engaging the audience. But he's just pretending to conduct because the pianist can't see his hands (though we all know that's not everything in conducting). Therefore the question, "why is he conducting at all?" is relevant. I find it pretentious and fake but many people can't see through the ruse. If classical music is going to really reach people, I am a firm believer that one needs to be honest and emotionally authentic. Showmanship has its place no doubt. But when it's the only thing on display, it enters the realm of snake oil salesman.
