I listened to the Jay's Instagram Live and this shoot was totally pulled together last minute. The girls are wearing kimonos from the hotel! They all did a good job considering this was cobbled together.

The translator can barely speak English herself!

I’m here after the Jays’ behind the scene chat. This wasn’t the original shoot idea. The girls were detained in customs so production was delayed - the original set was torn down and Jay had pretty much no money and no time to do this set. The robes are from the hotel and there is no lighting on set at all. They filmed these videos and went right to judging. This probably also explains why the translator is not great - they probably got her last minute.

in the real modeling world, they’d have a dialect coach to help coach them through the Japanese

Norelle honestly should work as a model in Japan, she has a look that alot of the Japanese like, she has that cutesy anime girl appearance

all of the girls were actually really beautiful here. some seasons have funny looking girls.

Hunny, not everyone watches anime, and they never spoke the language before.. they are trying but speaking a language for the very best time and on a commercial, is really hard. You wouldn't speak another language good for the first time and with all that pressure.

Monica Carden Actually, even American people that watch a lot of anime won't be able to pronounce it right due to phonetics. The Japanese alphabet has sounds that Americans don't have in their alphabet.

I've never watched any anime and I don't know how to pronounce Japanese words but I'd do better than Eva. All she had to do was READ the cards, rather than making stuff up.

"I don't speak Japanese..no" lmaooooo EVA was so funny during this.

I've studied Japanese, and I honestly commend the girls for how well they did, they weren't put into an easy situation, and I could make out most of what they were saying :) I just found it funny that what the guy was saying didn't match to the translator lol, idk what they did with the editing xD

I think it would have helped a lot if they had someone say the lines a few times so they knew what it was supposed to sound like. Also they needed a better interpreter

yeah. Plus, they probably did not use proper IPA transcription since most Americans do not know it, unless they study languages... so they had Japanese transcribed in English... most people have problems with that.

The reaction of everyone when Jay says its a Campbells soup commercial in Japanese is priceless

It's funny that the more judgy about it are american, i'm pretty sure japanese will not get offended by their pronunciation.And it's not about watching anime or not, lots of people have an high self estime of their japanse skills because they are watching anime, the fact is that after heard a douzens of youtuber reviewing anime noone of the is able to pronunce a sigle name correctly.

i actually find pronouncing Japanese really easy, but i understand how it can be difficult though. but i'm used to hearing different types of people so speaking like them isn't that difficult. i won't get it perfect, of course not, but i think i'd get close...:) but then again thats mostly for Japanese, its such a fun language to speak! XD i would've loved LOVED to do this. its better than if i had to speak like...German XD I'd SUCK at that.
