Antique Mandoline Music Box by Langdorff, c. 1860

A superb quality antique mandoline music box made by the firm of Langdorff in Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1860.
The music box features an extra long cylinder (17 ¼” / 44cm) with a mandolin arrangement to give the music a beautiful complex sound.
The music box plays 8 operatic tunes, including three parts of ‘D'amor sull'ali rosee’ from Rossini’s ‘Il Trovatore’, two parts of ‘Bel raggio lusinghier’ from Rossini’s ‘Semiramide’, as well as the Edinburgh University Waltz.
The musical movement features two combs and is in great condition. It is stamped with the serial numbers 11455 63 on the fixing to the top left of the bedplate.
It is housed within a beautiful wooden case, red to the interior and with the veneered lid featuring an inlaid twin dragon cartouche.
