    Thanks for the inspiration Mike! I've been wanting to turn a lighthouse for several years and after seeing your video I loved the look of the lantern and decided it would look good for the top of a lighthouse. I just never had been satisfied with the designs for the top I'd seen others used on theirs. I turned my first lighthouse using this design and I think it came out pretty good. I also made one of the antique lanterns for my mom.

    I very much like the lantern ornament, Mike. Well done. Some of your turning, however, was blocked because of the camera angles (the initial turning of the roof, for instance) and the volume was in and out. I had to keep increasing the volume to hear what you were saying.

    Mike -- I really liked this idea and may give it a go. When I was watching the video, I thought a set of the lanterns would really look good if you could use multicolored tealights (instead of simply warm white, some lights would be blue, others green, red, etc.). Sure enough, Amazon has them for about 50 cents each (when bought 24 at a time). You might want to add a set to your links -- just to give everyone one more option.

    Very neat Christmas project and definitely goes on the "things to make" list. One question, would there be an advantage to drilling all the way through the blank for the side holes instead of drilling on each face? ... or would that introduce other issues?

  • @MikePeaceWoodturning

    @MikePeaceWoodturning

    7 ай бұрын

    I would be concerned about the holes being perfectly centered if the blank was not absolutely square. It could cause an off center hole on the back side - Twice. But try it and see and let me know how it works out for you.
