@@alissag.8150 I hear you. Maple is really good for burning but it's a shame because it's also really good for cabinetry. We lose a lot due to storms where I live and I see people online calling on firewood companies to come and cut it up and haul it away for free (they don't pay for the wood, the owner doesn't pay to get it removed). One had a tree go down that was easily 3 feet in dia. The trunk was easily 15' straight as an arrow and branch free (no knots). She was asking for a firewood company to come and take it I told her to contact a local mill. I tried to buy a maple log 10' long and they wanted $3500 for it. Clear maple raw goes for about $5.00 a board foot (1" thick, 12" x 12") so you can imagine how much was in that log.

All of my firewood comes from storms. We had a giant oak fall this season. It would make a lovely tree for woodworking. Very straight trunk no knots. It's way too big for any bar I have though.

4:15 I see what you did there! Making bedding material for your pet mice. I was surprised that you didn't use the abundant Equisetum in our area to finish the wood. I have used it on many wood projects and the finish is absolutely beautiful. I did learn that partially drying works best. Too wet and it leaves a green tinge, too dry and it turns to dust. Usually the oldest ones seem to work best. They are just about perfect for moisture and higher in silica abrasives.

7:03 love the use of the old-skool wetstone. slow movement of the stone reduces the possibility of overheating steel and losing its hardness. TOP TIP Shawn: fit a water tray in the frame, under the wheel. put a couple of quarts of water in the tray, so the wheel dips in 25mm or so and you get constant cooling. you're welcome!

That’s probably why California is getting recent reports of bubonic plague. Someone the other day got plague from a flea bite while walking her dog. Medieval Europe in the 1300s had plenty of mice and rats running around that people didn’t kill, and look how it worked out for them.
