Antique Buffet Style Music Box: Made by Cuendet in Switzelrand, c. 1890

Музыка

A lovely quality and unusual buffet-style upright antique music box with 5 bells and drum made by Cuendet of Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1890.
The musical movement features 5 overlapping saucer bells together with a skin drum with 6 beaters, all of which can be engaged and disengaged at will using the levers to the lower left hand side of the comb.
The musical mechanism also features a tune indicator showing which of the 10 tunes are currently playing, as referenced on the two original tunesheets mounted to the inside of the two doors.
The music box plays a selection of bright popular tunes of the day including Home Sweet Home, The Bluebells of Scotland, The Lost Chord, and The Mikado.
The movement is housed in a beautiful veneered case mounted on an ebonised plinth, the doors both with tulipwood stringing, kindwood crossbanding and floral transfer decorations. The music box also retains the key for its working lock.
A beautiful and hard-to-find music box.

Hurrah! what a wonderful music! Some quartz clocks electronically imitates the same at every hour because they contains electronically recorded and programmed circuit board of sound chips connected to speaker. But they can't beat the sound of real music-boxes like these.

A beautiful Mechanical wonder, very clearly made for an upper class person of years and years gone by. As beautiful as it is, the little drum seems to be out of sync with most of the music!
