My grandmother wore hairnets. In the early 1950’s, I remember her removing hair from her brush and storing it in a hair receiver box on her dressing table. When she had enough she would fold it in a handkerchief and go to a little shop in Boston to have it woven into a hairnet. She would bring any that had frayed back to be fixed. I loved going with her. When we left she would sigh and wonder how long they would remain open as this was the last hairnet place left in all of Massachusetts. It finally closed in the late 50’s. Thanks for bringing back these memories.

No wonder there were so many buttons around. Grandmother’s coat and dresses had stunning buttons, not zippers. Kids clothing had zippers. Those old ringer washing machines were just hell on buttons. Cotton thread was no match for those beasts. Besides, buttons were removed from worn out clothing and saved. One grandmother spent evenings with a darning egg and mended things and replaced buttons, glued to that new tangled thing called a television. LOL. ‘Things’ are always going to find you. You have such gratitude and appreciation for them. Gather up and on!

That bag is beautiful I was surprised to see the pattern on both sides. The tartan on the inside too. I could imagine it was once a Victorian dress that's been repurposed. Love the boxes and paper items great graphics. You can never have too many buttons😂

You got all the buttons! I never knew hairnets were ever made of hair. I guess I never thought about it. I guess modern ones are nylon, maybe? I love the little purses, especially the one with the tassel. 😊 I almost forgot about the berry pin case. The pinheads look like a rasberry. Love it!

I had the same thought about hair nets. I suspose they are hair in more than one way to hold hair on and also made of hair.

What lovely treasures you found! The floral perfume cofret was made by Houbigant to house their “Le Parfum Ideal” which was launched at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. The perfume bottle was made by Baccarat. It was the first commercial floral fragrance to incorporate synthetic coumarin and salicylates. I own the cofret, which does have a small celluloid? toggle, and an empty bottle of the perfume with all the labels intact. Your cofret is in much better condition and the vibrant colors have not faded as they have in mine. So lovely!

Wow! Great items! Love the perfume boxes! Buttons are always great! The purses are beautiful! Love the velvet one! I bought a beaded coin purse and netted red bugle bead purse. I thought of you and netted one-you repaired. This one needs a little. It was a garage sale advertising antique and vintage clothing etc. Oh my I told myself no more white beaded bags. So thrilled with red the coin purse was is green with silver flower. Sale is thru Tue and super close to my house will I resist or be tempted?

I added some oil to the metal beads to prevent rust. You can use a paint brush to dust them off and a Lysol wipe to clean the chain. I don’t mess with the fabric because I’m pretty sure I would ruin it so I don’t buy anything that has an odor.
