Tom Spellman, from Dave Wilson Nursery, talks to the Orange County chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers about growing nutritious, antioxidant rich food in your own backyard orchard!
Tom has had a long career in horticulture starting in 1973 working for a small retail nursery while attending school. He used to ride his skateboard to work.
He went on to work at other SoCal nurseries including Armstrong Nurseries in Ontario and La Verne Nursery in La Verne and San Dimas. La Verne Nursery specializes in the production and sales of avocado, citrus, sub-tropical and deciduous fruit trees. There, under the supervision of Dieter Lodder his interests in propagation and production of fruiting plants was greatly expanded. Tom soon became general manager and continued to work with La Verne for 20 years.
In 2001 Tom was offered the southwestern sales manager position with Dave Wilson Nursery. Dave Wilson is one of the largest fruit and nut tree producers in the USA.
Tom also does work in Radio, Television, Video, writes articles and conducts lectures and workshops on fruit growing in the southwest.
