Anthrax's Scott Ian is Hooked on EVH Amps
Музыка
In this new EVH exclusive interview, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian explains how and why he is hooked on EVH amps, in particular the EVH EL34 100 watt head.
Watch as he waxes on about the tone he gets from his monstrous EVH heads.

He's "hooked" on EVH amps simply because Randall didn't continue their contract. I don't think it'd be easier to see through him if he was made of glass. That said, i'm a 5150 III 50watt owner and love it :D

Just a month or maybe less than that before he stopped using Randall, he was talking about how Mike Fortin was a genius and that he'd finally made the amp that has the tone that's been in his head his whole life. Before the Mike Fortin amp, his signature Randall was one of the worst sounding amps i've ever heard. Even to the point where my friends who don't play guitar came out of an Anthrax gig with me and complained about the "sound quality" and then they explained what they meant was the guitars sounded weird, to which i agreed. And lots of people were talking about it after the gig. So what i'm saying is, how can anyone believe Scott in these videos? Historically, the guitar tone hasn't actually seemed to matter to him. It's always been about having a sig or being endorsed. signed - me (a diehard fan of the 80's Anthrax guitar tone)

I'm late to the discussion, but I'm also the proud owner of a 5150 III (although it's the 6L6 version). I've been a fan of Van Halen since 1983 (same year I started playing guitar), and a fan of Anthrax since 1985 (his tone on Among is still one of my favorites to this day... although so much of it is HIM... I've only seen one other rhythm guitar player that could achieve the same level of tightness when doing upstrokes LOL). These amps can do it all, in my opinion.
His guitars used to be Washburn. His amps were Randall, which has the same parent company. He endorses Jackson guitars. Fender Musical Instruments Corporation owns both EVH and Jackson. Now he uses EVH.

A BEAST THAT SINGS! I think I'm sold. I've been contemplating getting one of these heads for a while now. I was worried that it might be too saturated but Scott has relieved my doubts.
Loving the Jackson V in the front - Michael Schenker black and white classic 80's! Scott's right though, that amp sounds ace. If anything will grab me from my Mesa Mark V, it'd be this amp.
I have the 50W version with the EL34 tubes. Awesome tone and brutal!!!

Scott speaks the truth. Those heads and cabs are beasts! Well worth the money!
I was very happy with my H&K. I walked into a GC picked up an EVH guitar and plugged into a white 100W EVH amp. I wasn't happy with guitar, but I fell in love with the amp. I played 3 more guitars through the amp. After 30 minutes the sales guys comes over and says, "so WTF dude!" you gonna buy this shit!" I didn't even have money to buy picks. I said, Fuck Yea! I've gotta have this one. I financed the amp and cab. Sold the HK and some other shit and paid it off. Since, I've bought the 5150 BLOCK and a 50W EVH, but my EVH100W is my work horse and confidence builder. I don't know about the newer ones or the EL34's, but this amp kicks ass and makes me smile every single time I plug her up!!!!! RIP EVH and thank you!

I actually plugged into one of these things once. sounds great but it is LOUD. Unless you are playing big venues or outdoors, I would not recommend. But now, if you have to play super loud, this thing sounds great and is a MONSTER. Clean channel sounds great. Much improved clean over the other EVH amps or 6505s

I own the 50w mini head. Everyone here on youtube says theirs a dark-sounding, but mine is so bright I end up dialing out a bit from my guitar's tone knob. And that's after dialing most of the treble and prescence knobs down on the amp.
Most of us guitarist are gear nuts and tone freaks, how many times have *YOU* switched out your rig for something you thought was better? If you are going to tell me you have the same OD/Fuzz/Dist pedal you began with, I would say you're lying. Fucking hell, I have bought and amp, thought it was the best thing ever, then sold it a month later because I found a better sounding one. So all you who are down on Scott for just releasing a sig Randall and then going to EVH, chill out brother (or sister) it's just a fucking amp. Scott is still the rhythm maniac regardless of what's pushing the air
Did'nt know till now he switched again but i'm not surprised .. There are so many pro's that have at least one EVH even if they don't endorse them. Eddie is the greatest. Sorry Jimi

I have the small LBX 15 watt head with the matching cab and I can only imagine what the full blown head sounds like. Eddie is the King of Tone and because his playing is so musical and tasteful that makes him the best ever. There are many who are faster, many who can get through a scale at 180 bpm. But there's no one who fucking jams like him. Just go an listen to some of his classic tracks again if you need a refresher in why he's the GOAT. Little Guitars, Mean Street, Fools, Jamie's Crying...then tell me who's got a better tone and is a more melodic beast than Eddie. You cannot.
This fucking thing is insane. There is a *LOT* of glass inside that monster. Eight JJ ECC83 preamp tubes; four Wing C 6L6 (or EL34 depending) output tubes and a power transformer that could power a small home. It has more features and controls on it than a Cessna airplane. The 5150 IIIS is the best amp made. I spent a hour at my local shop playing a used one. It was after hours and the doors were locked (my best friend works there) so I could turn it up as loud as I wanted. We set off the alarm in the Chinese restaurant next door. Enough said.
I had the privilege of having my ear drums blown 3 times on this last tour last time on Scott's side of the stage and let me tell you the evh and his half stack was A1 sauce growling like a pit bull and when he went clean like on breathing lightning it sounded very good just awesome I play a peavy half stack old school tube head I wish I could afford too upgrade too this evh u could do metal all the way to blues playing with this rig with great tone Scott IAN rules btw anthrax 4 life
That EL34 EVH is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cool Kemper you have in the rack there, Mr. Ian.
I have the EVH 5150 iiis EL34 100 watt head. It's a total beast; there is no reason to get any other head.

This is how I feel about my EVH
Man. Who gives a shit if he left Randall? It’s not like you’ll never find a Thrasher again. He’s a legend and can do what he wants
hes got channel 3 at only 30% gain? I have 50wt 5150III love it even at low volumes it crunches.
Scott, you 'DA MAN!'
Randall Ultimate Nullifier forever !
Scott looks hooked on King Vs
He said the same thing about the Randall Nullifier
I also just made the swap from the Randall Satan to the 100s Stealth and my god it is insane!! Cant wait to tour with my band Dead Reckoning in July!!!!
OK so I assume that his Randall contract is up. what happened with that deal, can someone explain?
whats the comparison to 6505+
Ok im convinced of your perfect tone EVH head what cabs are you using? Are they EVH? Thank you.
Sooo no more Nullifier? Plus what's with the Kemper.
What is the Kemper doing there?
sooo ... correct me if I'm wrong but it seems he likes his amp? :D
I would like to hear one with a noise gate, I tried one straight at Sweetwater, seemed noisey but, a cool amp. I am more interested in 50 watts. I don't need 100 Watts.
*EVHgear have you heard any news on a 50watt EL34 version of this head? Thank you.*
When did Jackson make a Schenker model
Van Halen is insane but Rhoads man so good so young dam, but hey props to the living.
Eddie Van Halen is the reason I even bothered to pick up an electric guitar and take lessons!!! Well Eddie and Randy Rhoads!!! Ironically later in life I took up Bass guitar in order to play in a professional Rock Band!!! Too many guitarist out there!!! L.O.L!!!☺
Man that's why the guitar tones are so good on Worship Music and For All Kings. Productions are insane too.
Can it go to 11?
Isn't that a Kemper in the rack?
I just finished watching him sell me on Randall after leaving marshall wtf
Wizard Modern Classic or EVH3?
No, he did not JUST put out a randall amp, that was years ago.
Which 1 Scott. Randall or aEvh
Scott is starting to remind me of Paul Gilbert..not as a player of course, different sides of the coin.. ..but I’m beginning to think of Scott as “The Paul Gilbert Of Thrash” as a human being. Scott is just proving over and over again in interview after interview to be a total gentleman like Paul..a true “down to earth” kinda’ vibe that I appreciate more and more. Thank you for posting this.
Yeah I second that come on put out the Red, Black, and White!!!!
“Red & Black Limited Edition!! Where is it!!?? Come on! It’s money in he bank!!” Awesome..
I played an EL34 Stealth earlier. It's nastyyyyy (in a good way)

I hope Randall rises with new artist and new innovations within the company. I would hate to see Randall go under. They need to quit making amps in China and make it all back in the USA. Nothing against EVH. I don’t own any but do own Randall and a lot of Jackson guitars and think Randall has a chance of being one of the best Metal amps out there if they could continue on. I have no idea what happen with Fortin but it seriously is a shame as Randall seem to be doing good for awhile.

Randall amps are weird. I’ve had a couple that I knew nothing about. Good amps, but you’d research them and couldn’t find any info or anything. It’s like they make a model for a year or two and totally stop. I had a little combo Randall amp that kicked ass but couldn’t find anything about it online or anything to see how much it was worth (I thought I underpaid it kicked so much ass). Glad he switched to EVH
I remember you tryin to sneak beers into the keystone in mt view ca in the late 80"
yeah what happened to the Randall junk lol
MORE than Hendrix?
It made sense since he's basically endorsed by Fender,...easy!
The Michael Schenker painted flying v is more intresting.
When he switches amp companies in a few years, he's gona use this same pitch for that brand just like he used the Randall one for this -_-
Scott, I just made a peanut butter sandwich. Will you shill that for me?
Hooked on Marshalls then Randall now EVH .....
Scott Ian just likes anything he can get for free.
Ok Scott I agree the evh amp is a beast and does have great tone !!! But your creditably is not the greatest since you endorsed Jackson then ESP then Jackson then Washburn then Jackson , amps you have stated that your a Marshall guy there the best then Randall nailed your tone then EVH ,,, but with all that to the side , the EVH is one of the best amps and you can never go wrong with a Jackson guitar!!!!!!!
