Scott Ian did have a flow, but he's basically rapping Chuck D's lines from his original off It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. I liked the fact that he shouted out Anthrax in the original and I love the fact they got to cover it with PE on this version.

Chuck D of Public Enemy is one of the greatest rappers in my opinion... I saw him (and B-Real of Cypress Hill) perform in 2016 w/ Prophets of Rage (members of Rage Against the Machine) and he was not lip-syncing... His voice was like thunder in the arena and he did not miss a beat w/ either the band or the DJ... doing Zack De la Rocha's lyrics or his own stuff w/ Public Enemy. I was sad that a 2nd album by Prophets of Rage was shelved for a Rage Against the Machine reunion. Public Enemy was huge in the late 80's and Anthrax was 1 of the 'Big 4' of thrash metal... Anthrax did a rap song in 1988 ("I'm the man") which became a huge single that the band did for fun... Anthrax wanted to remake Public Enemy's 'Bring the noise' around 1990 and got Chuck D. to do it w/ Scott Ian (rhythm guitar) adding his vocals and it was another huge single... It broke new ground bringing the 2 genres rap & metal together. Anthrax decided to do a full US tour w/ Public Enemy in 1991 ("Bring the noise tour") and it was a successful and productive tour that brought 2 audiences together (Chuck D still performs 'Bring the noise' w/ Anthrax whenever the band plays NYC) ... Anthrax was touring on their album 'Persistence of time'... while Public Enemy was supporting their album 'Apocalypse 91...'

Hey Vin, only 1 thing......white boy rapping is Scott Ian, Anthrax rhythm guitarist. Wasn't his rap though. This song was originally Public Enemy by themselves. This cover was done a few years later. So Scott is just mimicking what Chuck D did on the original version.

Interesting to hear Vin's views on Farrakhan. As a white English man, the media coverage of Farrakhan I was exposed to focused heavily on his supposed (?) anti-semitism and racial segregationism. Clearly, there was more to the man which didn't make the mainstream media on my side of the pond.

If you wanna go down that rap/rock rabbit hole, RUN DMC and Aerosmith had the first huge rock/rap hit together when they both collabed on a remake of Walk this way in the mid 80's . But Blondie really had the first one with their song Rapture in 1980.

I disagreed but whatever. Also, I know it was only like 4 or 5 years difference but Korn, Limp & Deftones tours felt like a world away from when this was out.

Stephen from Deftones was a big fan. Most of us were in that South Sac neighborhood were into Anthrax, Stormtroopers of Death, NWA and Public Enemy. Adrenaline was a completely different sound on the demo. It didn't have the hardcore sound, but it had a punk tone for sure. It's funny when I think about how the music was passed around in the neighborhood back then. lol

When this song first came out, it was complete vindication for me, lol. Most of my friends listened to hip hop (I did too), but I was the only metal head. Of course, during the Satanic Panic, they were afraid of the metal I listened to. Even though I would tell them about the Beastie Boys sampling Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath in "Rhymin and Stealin." Or how Public Enemy sampled Slayer in "She Watches Channel Zero" Or BDP sampling AC/DC in "Dope Beat. The when MTV started showing this video, they finally understood, lol.

I can't really comment on Scott Ian's delivery, but he's just rapping two of Chuck D's verses from the original 1988 song. As a metalhead I can appreciate this as a fun collaboration, but I've always thought the metal was a bit lame and the blending of styles sounded disjointed. I prefer the original Public Enemy song, which is on a classic album btw.
