Good job David. 2 suggestions that have worked well for me. Stay connected, via zoom meetings (for now), phone calls and the book, daily. I have found the #1 reason for people going out is drifting away from the herd. They stopped going to meetings. I've heard it many times from those who come back with arrows in their ass. Your mind will start telling you it's ok to drink. And secondly, there is nothing going on in your life that a drink will fix. Most likely it will make it worse. Good luck my brother..

When I first got sober at 29, it was nothing to work a full day, then walk to a meeting, every day . I'm 70 now, almost blind and lame from an auto/pedestrain accident so I don't get around like I used to. BUT.... how wonderful is it that I can go to a speakers meeting every day, anytime I want by going to KZread. Thank you KZread and all the generous posters out there that pulled my bacon out of the fire many many times. I'm very greatful.

His humility is inspiring in itself! He's one of the biggest film stars in the world and he opens himself up to strangers. It's easy to imagine how many people in HIS position with EXACTLY his problem would never dream of standing in front of their "lessers" and saying "I'm not a Hollywood star, I'm an EFFing drunk just like all of you!" That takes courage a lot of people don't have.

Thank you so much Mr. Hopkins, you broke your anonymity and that is yours to do. It has helped a lot of people. When I came in around 1983 Betty Ford and Joan Kennedy showed me the way up in Dallas, Texas. If those two women could admit they had a drinking problem then maybe I could too. Anonymity is the foundation of our program, however, it is a useful tool to use as well. You are such a great guy as well as in your profession.

Thank you for sharing. Alcoholism/addiction doesn't discriminate. Doesn't care if you have a deep-water dock with a yacht and servants or you're living in a shed with a leaky roof. It affects all colours, education levels, social status, IQ, or any other metric. It is the great equalizer and is a spirtual sickness. Very good to hear you.

God love him. Even though he is Anthony Hopkins, brilliant, successful actor, his story is so similar to so many of us. It is amazing. the feeling like an 'alien' in childhood is another common thing. I felt the same way also. To this day I struggle with feeling different. This disease does not discriminate--it hits all walks of life.

Wow never knew. I am 4 months clean today. I'm still doing my IOP group meetings with steps to recovery due to this virus and the zoom meetings are hard for me still. Thank you for speaking and sharing. I was like a little kid telling my boyfriend that you are an alcoholic. I was like guess who is an alcoholic. ..just take a guess, come on guess. Of course he looked at me like I had 3 heads. I'm having hard time dealing with everything right now, the virus is in my mom's nursing home, my handicapped dad is at his house, alone, the VA shut down right after this pandemic. Recovery is not all unicorns and rainbows but I know I must stay sober one day at a time and whatever comes my way, good, bad, ugly as long as I'm sober I will get through it, I'm not ALONE!!! THANK YOU!!!
