There is a reason why managers trust these players. Fans are reactionary, they think if a player doesn't join and instantly do what Jude Bellingham has done for Real Madrid they are a flop. They have no patience but managers know they are just humans, uprooting your life to move places is going to impact you mentally which will impact your game. They need time to settle and gel with their new teammates. Some players are anomalies and hit the ground running but that is rare.

What nonsense. Gordon arrived in the January 2023 transfer window and was gradually integrated into an a well functioning first team. He didn't lose his place to anyone, because he didn't have a place. Given the circumstances of his arrival, he performed well enough. That he has established himself in the first 11 in season 23/24 is no surprise to anyone who has watched his progression.

People are going on as if he only had one decent game in his first six months at Newcastle… Yes, he wasn’t performing at his very best, but some of these videos act like he was League Two standard!

So while I wouldn't have used "winter 2023" to describe it, most of winter definitely falls in the new year (in this case 2023).
