ANSYS Fracture and Delamination Part 2: Critical Fracture Parameters

Please subscribe to our new Channel. New videos will be posted here
/ @ozenengineeringsimula...
In this video we look at how to find the critical fracture mechanics parameters for delamination and the experimental tests involved. The double cantilever and end notch flexture are used as examples in a 3d fracture mechanics simulations.

For others receiving errors when running the programm, try to turn off the large deflection setting in the Analysis Settings menu. It worked for me :)

Thank you very much for this useful video. I just have a question. what type of contact did you define for the crack surface, especially in mode II. because in mode II, it seems that there is sliding between crack surfaces. Did you use frictionless or no separation? I'm trying to calculate the fracture energy of single-lap adhesively bonded joints with a pre-crack, I always receive this warning: "The fracture parameters computed during solution may be incorrect. Check the Solver Output on the Solution Information object for possible causes''. I found that this warning is because of the 1-A contact might have been created in the region of the crack contours 2- A load might have been applied in the region of the crack contours that are not supported in the fracture parameter computation. For removing the warning, I tried both no separation and frictionless contact but the warning appears again. And I also applied the load to nods, not geometry. but the warning has still appeared. I'd be grateful if you could an idea that can help me. Thank you in advance.

@ozenengineeringsimulation : Thank you for your detailed videos, they are really helpful to understand the concept. I just have one query - I am receiving this warning message when I am trying to replicate your model at first instance - One of the crack's mesh encompasses multiple bodies which have different material models. Ensure one material model by scoping these bodies to one material assignment object. Could you help to mitigate this waring so that error later could be avoided. In your video, no warning message flashes when you allocate nodal crack tip to pre meshed crack under Fracture in model tree. Thanks

when i do the share in workbench, it shares 4 surfaces and edges. Then manually leave only one 1 face and 3 edges, but then in contacts i do not get the same as the video one.

It's using the nice shared topology feature from ANSYS Spaceclaim. I covered it in the first video kzread.info/dash/bejne/gnmhr7qSe7WdYbw.html.

ONE more doubt i have, when you defined the coordinate for crack according to me it should be at crack tip that the same we used for formula also. i checked the analyses for both coordinate at tip and coordinate away from tip, Stress Intensity factor is different for both cases but deformation is same. please check it.

I was able to calculate SIFS (K1) during the mode-I simulation. However, when solving for G1, ANSYS returns an error saying the crack is undefined
