Like when Lucy came to him to talk about her feelings for Tommy he was like: "yeah yeah go for it." because he thought that if Tommy chooses Lucy, maybe Molly would choose him. and then he tried to convince Tomme on the roof terrace to not tell Molly about Lucy coming to him, because maybe the falling out that would have followed, would have made Molly come to him. Like maybe I'm interpreting to much into it, but that's how it came across to me lol
