Answering everything from when we're getting engaged to whether I feel like I earn enough money, this Q&A includes much laughter, some discomfort and a strong dose of Beth grilling me (and enjoying it more than even she expected) 😂
We discuss everything from our relationship (and coping with long-distance) to whether I'm happy working in corporate law. Beth did the hard yards splitting this up into some juicy sections, so feel free to skip around as you think will be interesting, or sit back, relax and watch me sweat... like literally, we filmed this in the middle of the heat wave 😝

About Me
I'm a trainee lawyer, part-time KZreadr, son, brother, startup founder, boyfriend, black coffee drinker and plant dad. I graduated from Cambridge University (where I studied French and Spanish), topped my law school class and now work for a corporate law firm in London as a trainee solicitor (which takes up a lot of my time)!
Around that, I'm a big fan of discovering new ways of thinking, of balancing work with life, and of performing to the very best of my ability. Ohh, and being happy. And I try to share all that on this KZread channel 😀
Fun fact: I believe we massively overplay the role of “natural talent” 😮 AND… I also believe that TOGETHER, WE ARE ALL CAPABLE OF POSITIVITY, PRODUCTIVITY AND SUCCESS.

Part-time evening law student in the U.S. here. I find the Barrister's lone existence you mentioned rather interesting. In the U.S., civil trial attorneys operate within an entire team. It's not uncommon to have up to 10+ attorneys/paralegals work on a large civil matter in the years leading up to the trial--as a result of the stakes (and stress) being extremely high, a sense of camaraderie blooms. I wish we had an trainee/apprenticeship system in place here in the U.S., but perhaps one day. (I, too, am interested in antitrust law, although more on the litigation side.) P.S. Beth is absolutely lovely; I love her accent.

Yeah but trial attorneys aren't really that different from solicitors who work in teams... the lawyers can just do the office work AND the law talking. There are just no silly wig wearing, cloak donning middleman hahhaha. Though in the uk barristers can work in "chambers" which are a team, where I come from, Ireland, barristers are all self employed and work solo!

From my brief time in a top ten solicitors firm in London, I know that quite a few partners were divorced, others worked insane hours (one had a sleeping bag in the office), while others delegated vast amounts of work to associate solicitors.

Why are you writing as a women? That sounds rather antifeminist, connecting here actively women and family. Would you have also written: as a man I just wonder how on earth could you combine corporate law and family. I don’t believe so. It seems a little bit that you have outdated role pictures in your mind. Or maybe I am wrong, but it seems for a little bit like that.

@@mikeelliott886 You're absolutely right, Mark, that partners should delegate and supervise. However, part of competent delegation is to optimise the level of workload allocated to each associate (based on their current workload and experience), to ensure that it's humanly sustainable and doesn't lead to burnout/nervous breakdowns/errors made under time-pressure. Not sure about the phrase "grunt work" but I know what you mean.

@@alinawelser8338 of course women and family are connected. Perhaps my word Choice was poor but as a mother myself a career path in corporate law would seem extremely difficult. I think it is tough for mothers (& fathers) to strike a balance between career and family and the lifestyle explained in this video must magnify that. Outdated or not that is the reality of being a mother, you have other priorities to balance…as would a father of course. My question is really as you move up the career ladder would that balance be easier to strike because it doesn’t sound like it in the junior grades.

He should start getting ready for the wedding. If he thinks he will meet a better woman the answer is likely not (speaking as a guy in his 30's who studied finance at Uni with some regrets in my personal life). If he thinks his family/personal life will automatically plan itself he is wrong too. If he think's his sperm and testosterone will be strong forever he is wrong too (decreases by 1% in your 30's). The girl needs to put a time limit for him to propose ( I told the same thing to my sister) and the guy needs to create contracts on the side as a gig (for instance entrepreneurs would love to have a discount on a private placement memorandums)
